Job Description

Health & Safety Officer RoleRecruitment Agency reference:J59166A position has arisen for a Health & Safety Officer within a leading NHS Trust based in West YorkshireThe successful candidate must have experience in working within the NHSYour duties will include:

  • Assist in developing and implementing systems and processes for E&F in line with NHS statutory and regulatory procedures, Health & Safety Legislation, Trust-wide protocols, legal and quality agendas
  • Ensure delivery of the rolling programme of governance activities in line with trust, division and service requirements.
  • Assist in developing short term and long term plans and actions for E&F to deliver quality solutions and new operational practices improving safe delivery of services.
  • Providing E&F governance expertise to Hospital management teams, incident investigators and other colleagues as required, by sharing knowledge of quality governance management processes, and supporting implementation, compliance, monitoring and improvementat both Trust and departmental level.
  • Receiving, interpreting and analysing varied data (including incidents and serious incidents, complaints, local inspections, risks and other sources) to increase understanding of quality, governance and learning across E&F, and in turn, inform decisionmaking within the department
  • Delivering compliance against statutory and regulatory standards and contributing to the preparation of regulatory and other inspections
  • Working with colleagues in other Hospitals, the wider NHS and departments to benchmark and apply best practice
  • Identify, evaluate and interpret complex legislation, authoritative guidance and background information relevant to health & safety. S/he shall ensure revision or creation of Trust local procedures which reflect current legislation and guidance. Sourcesmay include Acts and Statutory Instruments, Departmental Guidance, Enforcing Authority documents or Health Technical Memoranda.
  • Liaise with managers and staff representatives in clinical and operational services to ensure that such procedures are promulgated throughout their area of applicability and their provisions are adopted into the working practices of our service
  • Provide expert advice to Service Managers and Estates Officers on the interpretation of H&S legislation and guidance, to the capital development programme and other modifications to premises.
  • Manage the Estates & Facilities H&S budget, including taking the lead on specific schemes and oversight of contractors.
