Job Description

The Ministry of Justice - Court UsherLocation: Huddersfield Magistrates CourtSalary: £9.94PH Hours: Monday - Friday (37 hours) This is an ongoing temporary position with the possibility of a further extension at the discretion of the business requirements.Role Overview:We are currently recruiting for Court Usher to join the Huddersfield Magistrates Court with our client, The Ministry of Justice. The role will include working as part of a flexible team. This is a very interesting and varied role. The suitable candidate willbe required to clerk the courts, you will be an essential first point of contact for all the court users involved in hearings.Responsibilities include:Keep Court room and hearing rooms tidy and well managedOrganise refreshments Maintain supplies for recording equipment and operate it at the judicial requestMaintain supplies for court usersObtain names of all parties in attendance and show into hearings at required timeSwear in parties and witnesses as appropriateComplete court recording sheetsPhotocopy any documents required by the courtsProvide assistance with post and other admin tasks as and when requiredYou will also carry out some general clerical work as required to support the work of HMCTSThis role will also require you to host virtual hearings online - so please be aware you may be required to use computers regularly (training will be given)What we are looking for:Basic IT skills in Microsoft Windows (training will be given)Strong recent admin/customer service experience essentialRecent Law Graduates with strong customer service skillsBe polite and helpful to all customers both external and internalRemain calm, polite and tactful when dealing with difficult peopleVigilence and professional personalityPass on important information to all concerned promptly and clearly, with tact and honestyBe approachable, non-judgmental and honest and respects confidences in dealing with others.Treat all colleagues fairly and be sensitive to their needs as individualsYou will be comfortable in dealing sensitively and professionally with people from all walks of life; many of whom may be vulnerable and under stress. Advice and support are readily available and there is little discretion to depart from standard procedures,which may require you to take a firm stance when those procedures are not understood or welcomed by a court user.*Please note working for the Ministry of Justice will require you to have photographic ID.
