Job Description

Leader Education is working in partnership with an independent SEMH school based in Huddersfield. The school offers young people an alternative approach to education who may be struggling with mainstream school.As an Assistant Headteacher (Teaching & Learning) you will lead on driving the vision for high-quality teaching and learning and implementing and monitoring existing and new strategies which increase the effectiveness of teaching. You will work with othersenior leaders and teaching staff.Your key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Produce, monitor, and evaluate the Kirklees Teaching & Learning Action Plan. Identify and promote the key T & L priorities across all Kirklees sites.
  • Work with the strategic lead (T &L) to support the QA process.
  • Lead on targeted CPD across Kirklees that will rapidly raise the standard of teaching and learning.
  • Lead on the consistent implementation of an agreed reading framework across all sites.
  • Lead on effective strategies that engage pupils with specific learning needs.
  • Implement the ISS framework and ensure that staff are appropriately trained to meet the demands of both internal and external reviews.
  • Develop structures for staff to share your own successful practice.Review annually all policies around the T & L agenda and ensure they are being implemented effectively.
  • Work with the strategic lead (T & L) to embed high quality teaching and learning. Ensure that achievement and attainment, utilise research evidence and school-based evaluations.
  • Create a learning environment that promotes positivity and inspires learners.
  • Present clear evaluations of strategies, interventions, impact, and outcomes to The Directors.
  • Take responsibility (and be the named person) for Looked After Children.
  • Identify staff training requirements and support the delivery of a planned training programme.
  • Support the quality control and delivery of performance management for teachers.
Ideal Candidate:
  • QTS - Essential.
  • Experienced teacher and leader with demonstrable experience in leading improvement and quality of teaching and learning across both internal and external organisations.
  • Experience working with individuals with Social, Emotional, Metal Health difficulties.
  • Experience of curriculum modelling/mapping that informs ambitious and inspirational curriculum planning.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring teachers and senior leaders to own the improvement journey.
  • Demonstrable track record and experience of shaping, developing and implementing strategies that improve quality of teaching and learning.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and Ofsted framework.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to gather, analyse and present information to understand complex issues.
  • Confidence to challenge difficult or sensitive situations and escalate as appropriate.
  • Experience in effective collaboration with external agencies.
