Job Description

Assistant BuyerHuddersfield (HD4), West Yorkshire£32K to £38K per annumPermanent, with immediate start for the right personAbout the company:Wayland Additive is an ambitious West-Yorkshire-based technology company. Over the past 4 years, the company has developed a suite of new technologies in the advanced manufacturing sector and is now working towards the launch of their first product, a high-techmanufacturing machine which is essentially a highly complex 3D metal printer with multiple specialised high-technology sub-systems.Wayland has a detailed roadmap of technology and product development extending into the future and aggressive growth plans. The company is already experiencing significant interest in their product and is now embarking on the industrial production phaseof their operation.Wayland prides itself on having a highly skilled technical workforce with deep experience in the semiconductor, instrumentation, and advanced manufacturing sectors.Creating a new manufacturing company from the ground up requires tenacity and an eagerness to learn, but will provide invaluable career experience for anyone willing to take on the challenge. As with any small company, flexibility and adaptability willbe essential attributes to make a success of the position on offer.About the Assistant Buyer role:As the Junior/Assistant Buyer you will be responsible for assisting in planning, executing, and managing all activities necessary to ensure timely delivery of products & services from the supply chain. You will be responsible for maintaining effective internaland external relationships to ensure all purchasing activities support the needs of the business and meet the resource requirements of the operations department.Responsibilities of an Assistant Buyer:Along with other key team members, carry out purchasing and expediting activities and set up supply chain agreements in line with targets set by the purchasing manager.

  • Carry out the buying process in its entirety in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Ensuring continuous supply of required materials and services and reporting on any supply problems whilst at the same time taking remedial action to solve such problems.
  • Issuing purchase orders to suppliers and sub-contractors and expediting deliveries to achieve improved delivery performance from suppliers.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to achieve improvement on lead times, proactively troubleshooting and resolving issues across the supply chain and negotiating pricing and commercial terms with suppliers.
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders and suppliers regarding new projects, supplies and initiatives and advising on the impact of change on purchasing and production activities.
  • Negotiating the best costings and terms & conditions with the supplier.
  • Working with the warehouse team to come up with the most effective warehousing and storage systems for new products.
  • Establishing good working relationships with all suppliers in the supply chain.
  • Setting up contracts with the supply chain to ensure timely availability of all items required for production.
Skills and Experience:
  • Excellent problem-solving and process implementation skills.
  • High levels of commitment, energy, and personal / professional integrity.
  • Proven experience as a Buyer or in a Purchasing / Procurement role.
  • Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Good negotiation and influencing capability.
  • At least 1 year planning or buying experience, ideally gained in a engineering/manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use MRP systems and proficient excel and Microsoft office skills.
  • CIPS qualification or working towards would be desirable but not essential.
  • Must have a hands-on approach and a can-do attitude.
  • Self-starter able to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and numerical skills.
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
  • Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against demanding deadlines.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Strong team player who will proactively contribute to the team.
