Job Description

Kindergarten Manager - Hornsey, North LondonSalary: £24,000 to £28,000 p.a., pro rata, depending on experienceHours: Part-time: 20 hours in term time only (36 weeks) plus some necessary duties during school holidays.The CompanyOur established nursery client is looking for an experienced and inspirational Manager to take on the responsibility of leading and coordinating of their Early Years centreThe Role The post holder will develop close links with the school’s Trustees, the other members of the school’s Leadership Team, the Administrator, the School Bursar, assistants, teachers and parents.As the manager, you will work closely with the school administrator who is the other member of the leadership and management team. The central role of this position will be to ensure that the nursery school values and standards are embedded and result in consistently high quality practice.Early Years/Key Stage 1 teaching experience and openness to alternative educational approaches is essential. Leadership and management experience in an education setting is desirable.Responsibilities include:

  • To support all staff in creating a stimulating learning environment based on Early Years educational principles and practice, and in line with the requirements of the EYFS (exemptions and modifications apply) and the Independent School Standards
  • To ensure staff accountability and development, promoting reflective, creative, ethical and safe practice · to ensure that all Local Authority, Department for Education and Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship requirements for a kindergarten are fulfilled and all the Department for Education/Ofsted requirements are met
  • To review and update the operational and strategic school plan (‘School Development Plan’) together with the Trustees and the Administrator
  • To ensure the implementation of the School Development Plan and lead on school improvement
  • To review and update the school’s Self-Evaluation Plan together with the Administrator.
  • To review and update school policies together with the Administrator, update staff on changes, and ensure effective implementation of policies
  • To prepare for school inspections together with the Administrator
  • To oversee and manage inspection of the setting as the named manager
  • To ensure effective and regular communication with parents/carers, including the organisation of parents’ evenings, workshops, progress reviews and community events
  • Together with the Administrator, to liaise with the landlord and the property manager
  • To operate as Health & Safety Mandate Holder and hold regular reviews of Health and Safety in the setting
  • To liaise with and supervise the Parent & Child Group leader and the Afternoon Club leader
  • To oversee recruitment of families and liaise with the Administrator regarding the waiting list
  • To liaise with the Bursar and Administrator to manage budgets effectively and to ensure that resources are at the required standard to support high quality practice
  • To explore potential fund-raising channels to support the school’s development
  • To contribute to school publicity and marketing, e.g. the school’s Instagram, and update relevant documentation (handbook, website, information for parents etc)
  • To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required for the effective and safe running of the setting
  • Providing outstanding childcare
  • Promoting health and safety at the school

  • Skills & Requirements:
  • Candidates should have a teaching/Early Years qualification plus two years of teaching experience, preferably in an Early Years/Key Stage 1 environment.
  • Candidates must also have a secure knowledge of the EYFS framework and have excellent organisational and leadership skills. Knowledge of the Independent School Standards is desirable. An interest in and commitment to the Steiner approach to the education of young children is essential.
