Job Description

With inspiring nature on our doorstep and landscape-scale conservation taking place across the remote uplands of Peak District, there’s certainly something to share with our visitors and communities. What its like to work here The National Trust in the Peak District is at the forefront of conservation –managing its Estate through a small but dedicated team, to the highest international standards for conservation, access and wider public benefits.The High Peak Estate is the largest landholding within the Peak District portfolio. It is a highly valued destination for many visitors, National Trust members and outdoor enthusiasts. It provides a location for outdoor experiences but is also aplace where people live and work. The Estate does not host specific visitor facilities, but through this role we can engage people with our conservation work, inspiring a greater appreciation and support for this special place and how these complex elements work together.We have a leading 50-year Vision for upland management in the High Peak – encompassing the planting of clough woodlands, through to restoration of wildlife rich ecosystems across large areas of moorland, all in the context of a cultural landscape. We work with our tenants, partners, community stakeholders, volunteers and user groups to achieve our aims. What youll be doing With thePeak District’s inspiring natural landscape and cultural heritage, there’s everythinghere to fire your imagination. Your work will help to promote and safeguardthe special qualities of these beautiful places, delivering outstandingvisitor engagement, presentation and interpretation at key locations.You willwork with the Countryside Manager for the High Peak and other colleagues toensure that the visitor experience is in tune with our landscape and ourenvironment. You will communicate the important workthat we do and champion our cause. You’ll be involved in developing access andengagement projects, with visitors and local communities in mind.You willwork closely with the Ranger team to understand and communicate their work, developing content to be shared through a variety of media. You will recruitand manage volunteers who will help us to engage with our visitors and championthe Countryside Code. You will develop a thorough understanding of our audiencesand deliver engagement that will influence behaviorsand help manage risk. You will also coordinate the Active Outdoor Provider Scheme across the PeakDistrict .Overall, you will build relationships withthe ranger team, tenants, communities, partners and stakeholders across thePeak District to develop engagement opportunities and to ensure success in implementation. Who were looking forTo be fantastic in this role, you’ll need to meet the follow minimum requirements;

  • Understand how to interpret significant landscapes and nature conservation to varied audiences, preferably within an upland context
  • Have extensive experience of delivering engagement activities and high standards of presentation, working in an outdoors setting
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, able to deal with visitors and user groups in a variety of situations
  • Have the experience in managing and delivering projects - working successfully with partners and stakeholders
  • Have good people skills, enabling good working relationships with those in your team and across the property
  • Excellent organisational, coordination skills and attention to detail
  • Experience of working with and managing volunteers
  • Have an understanding of marketing and communication principles and experience using them successfully to communicate stories
  • Be self-motivated and have experience in managing your own workload independently
  • Have a driving licence
