Job Description

Woodcraft Folk is seeking aflexible, organised and sociable General & Domestic Assistantto join our small friendly team at our Lockerbrook Farm Outdoor Centre based in Bamford, Derbyshire. Youll join us on a part-time permanent basis, working 15 hours per week and inreturn, you will receive a competitive salary of£20,285 - £22,479 (pro rata).Woodcraft Folk is a registered charity, passionate about co-operation, children’s rights, youth leadership and outdoor education.Woodcraft Folk was established in 1925, in response to the First World War, by young people seeking to build a better future based on peace, international understanding and equality.Woodcraft Folk is open to everyone, providing play and youth work opportunities to children and young people up to 21 years. We support children to take the lead at every level of the organisation, including 50% of our Trustees being under 25 years.Benefits working with us:

About theGeneral & Domestic Assistant role:As aGeneral & Domestic Assistant, you willundertake a range of practical and operational duties maintaining the centre to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene and safety.As aGeneral & Domestic Assistant your responsibilities will include:
  • Undertaking housekeeping duties including cleaning of both internal and external areas of the bunk barns, cottage and camping area
  • Assisting with laundry requirements at the Centre
  • Ensuringthat centre cleaning equipment is maintained (and all faults reported) and that the centre has at all times appropriate cleaning materials and supplies paying due regard for the Health and Safety and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)regulations
  • Undertakingwhere appropriate light maintenance duties of the centre and grounds
  • Ensuringthat centre rooms are readied for use as determined by centre manager or visiting group leaders
  • Undertakingregular and deep cleaning of the centre according to agreed rotas
  • Working with centre users and group leaders to advise them of the proper use of the centre and the observance of relevant centre policies and rules, particularly those relating to centre safety, cleanliness and hygiene and to report any improper use orbreaches of centre policies to the Centre Manager
  • Unlocking and securingbuildings, as appropriate, ensuring the security of buildings at all times
  • Assisting with stock control and maintenance of cleaning equipment and products and to seek to identify and report any faults promptly
  • Assisting with waste management, recycling and removal to our designated bins
  • Undertakingother general duties as may be required from time to time appropriate to the level of responsibility for the post
What we are looking for in our General & Domestic Assistant:
  • Experience of, or understanding of cleaning and housekeeping, preferably in a similar environment (training can be provided)
  • Physical strength and mobility to enable the undertaking of activity involving lifting and carrying, bending and stretching and using stairs
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle to enable personal transport to the centre
  • An ability to work safely including at times on your own and to continually review actions to ensure reduced risk to self and others
  • Experience of working towards excellent customer service standards e.g. best practice in Health & Safety or quality standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively to staff and visitors
  • Willingness and ability to work shift patterns including some weekends and evenings
  • Commitment to safeguarding children and young people
  • Commitment to the aims & principles of Woodcraft Folk
