Job Description

Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge If you are an experienced Project Manager our Estates and Facilities Project Manager role may be the next role for you! About the role: We are looking for a Project Manager who is able to work in a collaborative style to support the efficient delivery of construction and maintenance projects to ensure we continue to provide world class facilities and meet the needs of the science. It is an exciting time to be joining an evolving and developing department, which although not guaranteed could offer development opportunities beyond the described end date.

  • You’ll be working in the Estates and Facilities Management department team and will be involved in challenging and interesting projects from inception to completion. Working across multiple workstreams of a multi- disciplinary nature, you’ll deliver in a collaborative environment to ensure project milestones are met and stakeholder satisfaction is exceeded. Your projects will be varied in scale and complexity; ranging from lifecycle replacement of plant and equipment with values between £25k and £1.0million, to office and laboratory fit-outs ranging from £200k to £2 million.
  • You will be responsible for leading and delivering a number of projects across the portfolio at any given time. These will form discreet projects but will be integrated into a wider programme and as such, being aware of the inter-dependencies and impacts will be critical. You will be responsible for the accurate forecasting and reporting on all projects.
  • Key parts of your role will include:
  • Acting as a focal point for projects and implementing a consistent and professional approach.
  • Proactively providing innovative and forward- thinking advice, always complying with legislation.
  • Establishing a comprehensive understanding of practical implementation of Health & Safety regulations.
  • Responsibility for selection and management of principal contractors.
  • Ensuring projects meet and exceed deadlines, quality standards and budget constraints.
  • About the team: The Wellcome Genome Campus is home to some world-leading institutes and organisations in genomics and bio-data research delivering life-changing science. The Estates and Facilities department are responsible for an interesting array of assets and facilities comprising of offices and laboratories, research facilities, a conference centre, conference residential blocks and a children’s nursery and welfare spaces.The campus is a vibrant, dynamic, world-leading and evolving campus with around 2,700 people on site daily. About You: As our next Project Manager, you’ll have solid Project Management experience (ideally experience in an appropriate construction based discipline) and be accustomed to managing construction contracts. With proven knowledge within facilities management/building surveying/architectural technology/building services engineering or contract management, you’ll tackle challenges in a proactive fashion and enjoy delivering results to a demanding stakeholder base. With the ability to adopt mobile/ agile working practices, your extensive IT skills will allow you to be efficient yet approachable in this extraordinarily uncertain time. Essential Skills
  • Has relevant experience as a Project Manager
  • Experience of working within a live environment
  • Appreciation of the importance of H&S, together with relevant training (asbestos, CDM,, etc) and appropriate level of CSCS card.
  • Experience using various forms of contract within the construction and property sector.
  • First-rate project management skills. Able to manage a portfolio of work to tight programmes in an occupied environment, adapt to changing circumstances and prioritise work.
  • An understanding of statutory compliance and risk management in relation to the delivery of projects.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder relationships with a diplomatic and collaborative approach, natural interpersonal skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across functional boundaries, where flexibility and a can do’ approach to teamwork is essential.
  • Proven experience of budget management, cost control, contract management and report writing, ideally gained within a value for money environment.
  • A logical problem solver with good judgement and decision-making capability. Able to remain level-headed under pressure.
  • IT literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Other information Due to the nature of the role there may be periods of overtime or weekend working work depending therefore some flexibility will be required at these times.Whilst the developments around COVID-19 continue to evolve, the Wellcome Genome Campus is closed for all but essential functions and facilities.People remain at the centre of everything that we do and the majority of our staff are now working remotely to ensure continuity of operations, making use of remote communication and collaboration tools.Interviews will be taking place virtually and the successful candidate should expect to be fully supported through remote on-boarding and working from home until the Campus re-opens to all staff (although this may include occasional onsite working).Closing date: 15th November 2020 Required skills
