Job Description

class:($data.displayType === InputTextArea)block__field--full-width : $data.displayType === InputRichText block__field--wide-rich-text :block__field--edit}"> html: $component.getFieldValue($data)">We are looking to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer who will provide assurance that the Companys operational electrical systems are designed, constructed, operated and maintained in accordance with legislative requirements, industry standards, and Companypolicies, procedures and standards.The successful candidate will be based in the Engineering team within COO and will be responsible for implementing the Engineering Framework (Competence, Compliance, Legislation, Policy & Procedure) and ensuring that the assets of the Company are fit forpurpose by providing technical support to the business. Assess asset risks and the effectiveness of controls and mitigations.Day to Day:

  • Assess the competency of staff and contractors working on electrical systems and maintain registers of authorised electrical personnel in order to ensure safe working in the proximity of electrical systems.
  • Responsible for the Company demonstration of compliance with EWR and DSEAR and electrical safety aspects of the Safety Case.
  • Approve and appraise electrical designs and support the acceptance of G17 (management of change procedure) design and completion packages for electrical equipment and systems to ensure that new works on Cadent sites are designed and made operational inaccordance with Company and industry standards.
  • Build and manage relationships with external parties including regulators, engineering framework providers, and discipline experts in other independent gas distribution networks to ensure effective sharing of knowledge and best practice.
  • Leads in influencing and shaping the statutory, regulatory and company standards framework with respect to engineering and ensures all required statutory documents are in place.
  • Manage standards and support quality processes to ensure that all materials, construction techniques and equipment used for electrical works on Cadent assets are fit for purpose
  • Participates in incident investigations as required. Ensure that the learning from incident reviews and investigations are communicated with action plans delivered.
  • Provide advice and sign off on risk assessments and hazard mitigations plans for discipline.
  • Mentor staff and advise Learning & Development to support the development of electrical competence for direct reports and electrical engineering community.
  • Act as informed buyer for Technical Consultancy and manage budget for third party electrical activities supporting role, leveraging the TCS framework and challenging service providers to ensure Company obtains a good quality and cost efficient service.
  • Supports research and technology development related to electrical engineering assets, driving benefits into the business.
  • Provide technical expertise to support innovation projects and field trials.
  • Identifies the scope for continuous improvement of safety and business performance in areas of engineering practice
  • Develops, recommends and implements improvements to engineering processes to improve efficiency or the quality of the service provided to stakeholders.
What Youll Bring:
  • Extensive engineering experience working within a gas transmission, distribution, oil and gas, process or petrochemical environment.
  • Site experience in either engineering support, operational, construction or commissioning phases.
  • Able to interpret Electrical engineering drawings
  • Uses many sources of information (own knowledge, document libraries, standards, surveys etc) to make sound engineering judgements to problems
  • Good communicator and influencer
  • Able to interpret and present complex technical and data issues.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002.
  • Certified knowledge of the latest edition of BS7671 Wiring Regulations.
  • Significant experience of the operation of electrical safety in hazardous environments.
  • Experience assessing competence and authorising electrical personnel for safe working.
  • To have held a supervisory role in an electrical engineering environment with responsibility for one or more of the following areas; design, installations or maintenance.
  • Experience developing graduate engineers and/or apprentice technicians.
  • Sound working knowledge of ATEX and UK electrical standards.
DesirableSound working knowledge of Cadent or gas industry safety and engineering policies, procedures and standards, particularly for the Management of New Works, Modification and Repairs. If not familiar with Company specific requirements, a demonstrable abilityto assimilate and develop understanding of engineering policies and procedures and requirements.For Being at Your Best We Offer:
