Job Description

The Electrical Engineering division at R&B Switchgear Group are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager to support projects for our expanding electrical division.R&B Switchgear Group has provided world-class power engineering solutions to a global client base since 1985. Specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of LV and HV switchgear and associated assets, we provide turnkey solutionsto some of the world’s largest blue-chip companies.Electrical design of LV assemblies for bespoke projects for a broad range of industries and customers.Your new role:In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing the department and ensuring all designs fully comply with regulations, standards, and codes of practice.Your responsibilities:

  • Managing the team of Design Engineers and CAD Operatives.
  • Understand and enact the Design team mission and objectives.
  • Interpreting customers’ technical requirements
  • Design of electrical power and controls systems in compliance with specifications and regulations
  • Generating technical documentation as required
  • Leading and monitoring build with colleagues in the manufacturing team
  • Ensure compliance with HR procedures by carrying out; 1-2-1’s, performance reviews, holiday requests,
  • Conduct monthly team meetings.
  • Create reports and Management Information
  • Monitor workload and allocate work accordingly.
  • Verify and sign-off design team output.
  • Act as a senior design authority for the Company.
  • Assist with the provision of design and estimating
  • Preparation of designs, proposals, technical submittals, drawings, and quotations.
  • Ensuring designs fully comply with all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Work to defined deadlines, and budgets.
  • Site visits, creating reports & surveys.
  • Attend internal and external design meetings.

Your skills and background:
  • 3 years’ experience managing a design team.
  • Design experience within the electrical engineer industry is essential.
  • A record of producing designs
  • Commercial acumen and contract awareness.
  • Full driving license.
  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or related subject. (Preferred but not essential)
  • Knowledge of applicable systems gained from working in an engineering role, Installation, Service & Maintenance, Commissioning, etc. (Preferred but not essential)
  • Experience of designing systems with high levels of integration and convergence. (Preferred but not essential)
