Job Description

The Respiratory Centre at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) provides expertise in sleep medicine, ventilation, COPD, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer/pleural medicine, interstitial lung disease and difficult asthma. The department has strong links with the University of Wolverhampton. We also have strong collaborative links with primary care providing direct access spirometry services to neighbouring CCG’s.An exciting opportunity has arisen within our busy Respiratory Physiology Department at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton. The service provides a large range of physiological studies including:

  • Spirometry +/- reversibility testing (plus direct access GP service)
  • Gas transfer
  • Static lung volumes (Helium dilution and Body Plethysmography)
  • FeNO
  • Radial and Capillary blood gas sampling
  • Bronchial Challenge tests (Mannitol)
  • Skin prick allergy testing
  • Six minute walk tests
  • Basic respiratory Muscle strength testing
  • Cardio pulmonary exercise testing
  • Hypoxic challenge testing
  • The post holder will also take an active role in the Home Oxygen Assessment and Review Service (HOSAR) as well as support sleep and ventilation services. Currently we have three consultant led sleep and ventilation clinics per week and are actively involved with sleep diagnostics (respiratory polgraphy), CPAP and home NIV.You will be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills. You will have the ability to work under pressure, autonomously and prioritize your individual workload, as well as be able to work effectively within a team and support development of junior staff. You must be able to provide evidence of continuing professional development and have experience in a wide range of diagnostic respiratory investigations.The ideal applicant will have a BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent qualification and have successfully completed ARTP Professional exams or have equivalent experience in a respiratory department.
