Job Description

THE BLACK COUNTRY PATHOLOGY SERVICE Consultant Microbiologist PostsThe Black Country Pathology Service (BCPS) is an NHS pathology partnership between four Trusts in the West Midlands created to combine our strengths and deliver pathology excellence to a population of approximately 1.8 million. The four Trusts are: The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.We have opportunities on 3 of our sites for friendly enthusiastic infection specialists to join our team. These jobs are a mixture of new and replacement posts and would be suited to applicants with a CCST or equivalent in Microbiology or Microbiology & Infectious Diseases.We are looking for:

    • Three full time consultants based at Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.

    • One full time consultant based at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust

    • One full time and one part time (7PAs) consultants based at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS TrustPlease state clearly on your application the reference number of the post you are applying for.At all sites the microbiology teams enjoy good working relationships with clinical departments by visiting clinical areas in person to discuss positive blood culture results, supporting MDTs, antimicrobial stewardship and OPAT and regularly attend the critical care unit to advise on infection management. Infection prevention & control is an integral part of our work and we work closely with the infection prevention & control teams at each site.The model of service delivery for BCPS is that of a hub and spoke model. The hub is based at Wolverhampton where the main microbiology laboratory is located within a large, new purpose built laboratory utilising the latest technology. Microbiology laboratory services from Walsall transferred to the hub in December 2020. Services from Dudley and Sandwell and West Birmingham will transfer in the spring/summer of 2021.The Black Country area lies on the edge of the West Midlands conurbation with its catchment area extending to parts of Shropshire and Staffordshire. There are very good road and rail communication links to Birmingham and the West Midlands. Excellent schools, sporting and cultural activities are all close at hand.Applicants should have completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date in Microbiology or Microbiology & Infectious Diseases within 6 months of the date of interview.
