Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Location: Hartlepool
  • Job Type: Full-time

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive team within an SEN school in Hartlepool. This role is ideal for an individual with a passion for making a difference in the lives of pupils with special educational needs. Experienceworking with SEN pupils is essential, and relevant qualifications are preferable. Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of special educational needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
  • Work closely with the classroom teacher to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behavioural plans.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and the classroom environment to meet the needs of SEN pupils.
  • Encourage pupils’ independence, self-confidence, and social integration.
  • Monitor and record pupils’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required.
  • Adapt communication style to effectively support pupils with varying needs.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists or educational psychologists, as necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience working with SEN pupils.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special educational needs are preferable.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by SEN pupils and strategies to support them.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, encouraging attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of special education.
