My Client is currently looking for an Senior Democratic & Electoral Services Officer to work in the Harrow Area. We are looking for someone to demonstrate a commitment to the Councils Equal Opportunities Policy and the ability to understand and implement the policy in relation to the job responsibilities.To be considered for this role you must be able to complete the following duties:Provide full and effective administrative support to allocated Council Member/officer committeesEnsure the smooth operation of any other allocated arrangementsTo service aspects of the existing decision-making and overview and scrutiny structures by taking responsibility for arranging and attending various meetings.Provide expert advice, consultancy, service and support to Members and senior officers on matters for which responsible, particularly in relation to the Constitution, the law relating to meetings and Members interests.Work with Legal and Governance colleagues to deliver a consistent and seamless service.Make Elected Members and officers aware of the services provided so that they can make appropriate and timely use of them, initiating and running training courses as appropriate.Represent Democratic and Electoral Services at internal and external meetings, including attendance at meetings of the London Democratic Services Forum and the Association of Democratic Services Officers.To support Member development and training. This will involve arranging training events and assisting in new Members induction.To interpret the Constitution and legislation and act as an advisor to elected Members, other departments, senior managers, officers, external organisations and members of the public on Council policy, procedures, legislation, decision making and Code of Conduct as necessary and liaise with various organisations, e.g. Electoral Commission, Ministry of Justice, and other bodies.To contribute to the provision of an effective and high quality electoral service that complies fully with all legal requirements. This will include the provision of an electoral registration service and the organisation of elections and referenda.To take a problem-solving and imaginative approach to new issues particularly in the interpretation and application of the Constitution and to advise Members and officers on the complex and often contentious developments arising.To work with the Democratic Electoral & Registration Services Manager and other members of the Electoral Team to ensure that work is efficiently carried out.To organise such systems and records as may be necessary to ensure duties are efficiently carried out.To ensure that all appropriate meetings comply with the Councils ethical and corporate governance arrangements and such other policies that may apply.To work with the Democratic Electoral & Registration Services Manager and the to ensure that work within Registration Services is efficiently carried out.If you have previous experience in these areas and keen to develop your knowledge further this is a perfect team for you.
