Job Description

Hours: Part time 20 hours per week for each rolePay: £15000 per annum + 12 days paid holiday per yearStart date: TBCWe are seeking 2 part time Personal Assistants to support a 28 year old young man who is a wheelchair user (the wheelchair is motorised).This young man lives independently in his own bungalow and plays the Paralympic sport of Boccia competing at national & international level. He attends regular training sessions at a local gym, weekly strengthening and conditioning sessions at a University Sports Hall, a 40 minute drive away, competitions which take place around the UK on around 8 weekends per year and international matches 2 to 5 times per year. The PA will be expected to accompany him to all such events and activities to provide support. (transport and accommodation will be paid for by the employer). These international competitions last between 3-5 days depending on location. A valid and current UK passport will be required.The successful candidate must be aware of and understand the Boccia Code of Conduct and must act professionally at all times at all events and competitions or other activities and must not contravene any part of the Code of Conduct at any time including when off duty at these events. This is both in the UK and overseas.The young man will also require some emotional support especially in the build up to competitions. An understanding of mental health would be an advantage. The successful candidates must be able to demonstrate that they are:- professional- adaptable- patientThe young man is also a keen on-line gamer and sports fan and it would be helpful if candidates shared some of these interests. The PAs would also be expected to support in respect of social activities as necessary and help the young man develop his social skillsThe successful candidates will also be expected to manage the young mans diary and support him in meeting his schedule. This will include:- booking accommodation- booking transport- booking courts- maintain training records- booking doctor/other appointments- maintaining medical supplies, re-ordering in plenty of time to ensure nothing runs outThe young man also requires support in some domestic housekeeping activities such as- shopping- cleaning- cooking- It would also be useful if the successful candidate had some knowledge of nutrition to help ensure the correct nutritional balance is achieved- maintaining medication schedule- driving him to various appointments and activities and remaining with him to provide support. (he has his own vehicle which the PAs will be expected to use when transporting him so a valid and clean UK driving licence will be required, insurance will be paid for and supplied by the employer)- a limited amount of personal care although, on the most part, the young man is independentTimekeeping is a critical requirement in this roleA DBS check will be required which will be paid for by the employer.At the employers discretion the PA could work from home from time to time when administrative activities are being undertaken not requiring attendance at the place of work however there should be no expectation of this and is at the sole discretion of the employer.Each role is part time with a minimum of 20 hours per week, some overtime, especially on competition weekends, may be available. Due to the nature of these roles there will be no fixed hours per week and flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the individual. Attendance will be scheduled a minimum 2 weeks in advance to allow the PAs to make their own domestic arrangements. There is no expectation of overnight stays except when there are competitions or other activities as described above requiring overnight stays away from home in the UK and overseas.Full training will be provided and a comprehensive operations manual supplied.The employer will hold 1-2-1 meetings with each PA on a minimum once a month basis and perhaps more at the employers discretion. These meetings are to review performance and provide an opportunity for both parties to discuss any subjects of interest to either of them.Because of the young mans condition we are currently operating in line with Government and NHS advice in respect of the Covid 19 pandemic and will continue to do so consequently there may be some changes to the above whilst this advice is in place but the health and safety of the young man and the PAs will always be the primary objective.In summary, we are seeking individuals who are:- flexible- patient,- professional- good listeners- confident- personable- can meet the specific needs of this young man.They must be:- fluent in written and spoken English- hold a current and clean UK drivers licence- hold a current and valid UK passport.They must:- be respectful of the young mans privacy and confidentiality- Reliable with good time-keeping- be able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative- be hygienic with an organised and tidy mind- be fit and healthy to undertake the required duties- be patient with excellent interpersonal skills- be honest and cheerful- be creative- be legally permitted to work in the UK- be able to work at all times to high standards of health & safety- be willing to undergo the appropriate screening including checks with past employers and an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)Employment conditions may change from time to time depending on the young mans needs.
