Job Description

Our client who are a leading company in their field are now on the lookout for an experienced Supply Chain Manager with working knowledge of warehousing steel products. You will have an understanding of inbound logistics and Customs Clearance procedures for General Cargo vessels and truck deliveries. Our client prides themselves onproviding first class customer service and reliability which is supported by their market expertise.This is a varied position which requires a dynamic and adaptable individual with broad knowledge of importing, warehousing, port operations & UK Haulage with a professional approach and suitable presence to manage a variety of contacts with a clear focuson customer service as well as operational efficiency.As the successful Supply Chain Manager your duties will include:

  • Contracting and management of agents to oversee surveys, loading of cargoes overseas, chartering vessels and discharge in the UK.
  • Importing product details and test certificates into the system and generating various reports for the port operator partners, HMRC customs declarations with the customs broker and updating the commercial and finance departments.
  • Work with subcontractors to prepare for arrival of goods establishing suitable stowage and warehousing planning.
  • Contract Management and monitoring of service levels for provision of vessel discharge, goods inwards procedures, Internal / External storage, Port stock control, material handling and dispatch to customers.
  • Produce management information on costs and capacity.
  • Liaise with the management team to develop process improvements as necessary.
  • Approving invoices and passing to accounts for payment.
  • Maintaining and repairing packaging labels on-site.
  • Stock checks, supplier audits and system updates.
  • Dealing with damages.
Skills required to be successful:
  • Experience heading up operational procurement and managing a warehouse (essential)
  • Experience within a similar role with knowledge of steel or metal products (essential)
  • Highly organised and efficient with good ability to manage time and prioritise.
  • A continuous improvement mindset.
  • Competent with computer systems and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle large amounts of data.
  • Great analytical skills to determine best course of action
  • Reliable and flexible in your work attitude and able to use initiative to solve problems.
Extra requirements that the role involves:
  • You will be based in the Harrogate office however you will be required to travel to the port in Scunthorpe on a weekly basis, 1-2 times per week.
  • Occasional visits to other UK ports will be required from time to time.
  • You will be involved in the implementation of the new barcode system at Scunthorpe port along with bi-weekly stock takes.
In return as the Supply Chain Manager you will be offered a salary of up to £45,000 per annum depending on experience. Working hours are Monday - Friday with the option to work from home 1 day per week.
