Job Description

Payroll Assistant - Harrogate / Competitive Salary + Excellent Benefits + Free Parking + Excellent Staff Discounts / Initially Remote Working Moving to Hybrid Working / Career Development +Study Support Available / PermanentNC Associates are working with a market leading organisation based in Harrogate to assist in recruiting an experienced Payroll Assistant to work within an experienced and established team. This role will report to the Payroll Team Leader and will initiallybe working remotely from home, following government guideline updates this role will move to hybrid working with a maximum 3 days in the office per week. As an integral part of the payroll function, you manage your own workload whilst supporting the widerfunctions and tasks detailed below.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in developing their career within Payroll and who demonstrates a proven relevant background.The responsibilities of the Payroll Assistant role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that all weekly and monthly payrolls within your area of responsibility are processed in accordance with statutory and company rules and within required timescales.
  • Co-ordinate the accurate and punctual processing of all payroll credit transfer and emergency CHAPS payments.
  • Support the administration of members in company pensions schemes, including and auto-enrolment.
  • Work with the Payroll Team Leader to ensure that statutory deductions are correctly made and accounted for and that all statutory returns, including those for taxable benefits, are produced in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for processing PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, Holiday Pay and other transactions.
  • Setting up new starters, leavers and issuing P45s.
  • Processing payments, expenses, petty cash and other transactions.
  • Ensure that non-statutory deductions made on behalf of colleagues are accounted for and returns, including payment, are made to the appropriate organisations.
  • Proactive in taking the initiative to review and make suggestions to improve processes and procedures in relation to payroll systems, processes and procedures in accordance with accounting policies, Group requirements and best practice.
  • Provide excellent customer service, manage and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support Financial Accounting Manager and Payroll Lead with ad-hoc projects and activities.
Requirements of the Payroll Assistant:
  • The ideal candidate will have previous proven experience of working within a similar role as a Payroll Assistant, Payroll Office or be a Payroll Administrator with all round exposure to payroll duties and functions.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Excellent IT skills including proficiency or hands on knowledge of Sage, MS Office systems including MS Excel and HMRC.
  • High levels of accuracy and an eye for detail with a hands-on approach.
  • Pro-active attitude organised and able to work to deadlines and strict timescales.
