Job Description

Network Engineer HarrogateBriefNetwork Engineer needed for a well-known full fibre broadband provider. My client has recently received £250 million pounds in investment and on the back of that are massively expanding. This role will be field based in Harrogate and they are looking toemploy an experienced and well-rounded Network Engineer that takes pride in their work - Juniper networking accreditations are preferred but not essential if an appropriate level of experience has been gained (MX/ACX/QFX).The successful must have an understanding of multiple network technologies (e.g IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, MPLS VPN, BNG, IPv4/IPv6, CGNAT) and have a keen interest in Network Engineering. What the role entails:The role will have responsibility for the design, build, development and support of the organisations active network. This includes the passive optical network (PON), active components / outside plant in street cabinets (aggregation / OLT), and the DataCentre function which includes aggregation, core, transit and peering. With the organisation being a start-up Altnet ISP, the role will be varied with the successful candidate supporting a number of activities and will be a key member of the Network Engineeringteam. The successful candidate will have worked within a service provider and have hands-on knowledge of ISP services, solutions, equipment, and protocols. Network Engineers must be confident communicators and possess excellent analytical and problem-solvingskills.Some of the main duties of the Network Engineerwill include:
  • Build / deployment / configuration of core network, datacentre & outside plant architecture to support over 100,000 customers
  • Provide project support to senior members of the team
  • Provide the NOC team and field network team with a technical escalation point as the 3rd line support of incidents to resolution
  • Provide documentation, guidance and mentoring to NOC engineers
  • Provide network monitoring support to enable pro-active management of incidents which may impact customer service or network performance
  • Participation in developing a best of breed network function
  • Securing all aspects of the network from existing and future threats
What experience you need to be the successful Network Engineer:
  • Juniper networking accreditations are preferred but not essential if an appropriate level of experience has been gained (MX/ACX/QFX)
  • Understanding of multiple network technologies (e.g IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, MPLS VPN, BNG, IPv4/IPv6, CGNAT)
  • Understanding of Linux (desirable)
  • Experience of coding / scripting / API (desirable)
  • Experience of XGS-PON (desirable)
