Job Description

To create, design and develop commercially viable and innovative products, being mindful of the customers own requirements, price points and our own cost parameters. Be brand aware on whom the designs are for. Ensure all components are sourced before designing into them.Client DetailsA business in the Harrogate area. They are known for their design lead products sold into leading Ecommerce & High Street retailers. They are seeking a Designer/ Technical Product Developer to join their team due to growth.Description

  • To be able to research and take note of trends, fashions and innovations and apply to specific customers, Brands and designs.
  • To ensure that generic mood boards and trend boards are created at the start of each season and more specific boards for each customer, if required.
  • Ensure designs are suitable for production; well thought through with suitable finishes and realistic construction methods to ensure the products are fit for purpose and technically feasible for a production line.
  • To be responsible for the creation of "initial" component BOM for selected artwork.
  • To actively take ownership of the said designs ensuring that all the correct and absolute information is made available to both the Customer and the Factory. That Technical have been asked for Specs and have the correct information to be able to prepare one.
  • To actively take ownership of own accounts. You are responsible for overseeing all workload and deadlines for your own accounts.
  • To action the initial costing on any selected design with the factory and ensure that the correct information is issued to the factory.
  • That internal procedures are followed regards the actioning of any sample request and the design and product developer has full responsibility for following this through.
  • Hold internal development hand over meetings at point of costing sampling with QA and Sales.
  • Hold development critical path meetings regularly and assess the factories critical path awareness during the meetings. Identify weak areas/people and discuss corrective measures with the Supplier.
  • Work closely with the technical team at all times to ensure that product is fit for purpose. Developments specs are key to getting correct samples in on time.
  • Keep all files organized and filed in the appropriate place.
  • Continuously nurturing and building on relationships - both Internally and with the customer and the factories.
  • Attending customer design meetings and presenting trends and shopping in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
  • Travelling on comp shopping trips where required and attending trade fairs and shows as required.
  • Travelling to the Far East when required to visit Factories, Suppliers, Customers.
