Lead Resident DoctorCritical Care Birmingham, West MidlandsIt is a hugely exciting time here at HCA UK. Opening Spring 2023. The Harborne Hospital - is our brand new £100million, purpose-built 50 bed, multi-speciality private hospital to deliver full clinical pathways across a mix of specialitiesand sub-specialities at all levels of complexity, including Cardiology, Cancer and Complex Surgery.We are starting to recruit our employed Medical Team ready for the opening and are actively seeking to recruit a Lead Resident Doctor to manage the Critical Care Unit.

  • Location: The Harborne Hospital
  • Rewards: Attractive salary dependant upon experience, £57425 - £82100 per annum.

  • Hours: Full time, shift patterns 12 hours on the 24/7 rota. 80% Clinical 20% Protected Admin /Managerial time.
About the role:This is a unique opportunity for a highly-skilled, passionate doctor, Critical Care trained to Senior Registrar Level or Junior Consultant, to be part of the Critical Care Unit leadership team. You will work clinically in the unit as the Lead Resident Doctor,manage resident doctor rotas, take resource and medical budget responsibility, and be a clinical expert role model to coach and develop the Resident Doctors in adult critical care unit. In addition, you will be the go to lead doctor to Private Consultantsand Senior Nursing professionals to assist in ensuring outstanding care is continuously delivered.You will conduct;
  • Day-to-day medical care of inpatients- clerking admissions, reviewing discharges, assessing referrals
  • Daily patient ward rounds, responding to ad-hoc medical needs and emergencies
  • Medical procedures as required include vascular access (e.g., insertion of central venous catheter/vascaths, insertion of arterial lines), airway management (e.g., intubation, management of tracheostomies), management of acute pain/epidural catheters, useof ultrasound, ventilation management, optional skills at other procedures (e.g., chest/abdominal drain insertion, lumbar puncture)
  • Escort service for transfer of ventilated patients in the hospital (e.g., to CT or MRI scanner) and occasionally inter-hospital/external transfers.
  • The leadership of the cardiac arrest team to provide airway management and team leadership as part of the hospital emergency response team.
Upon the hospital opening, the Lead Resident Doctor will also have responsibility for providing professional leadership to help establish ward/unit-based standard operating procedures specifically for the care of critical care patients for the Resident Doctorworkforce.Successful applicants will need to be:
  • MBBS medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC and current licence to practice
  • An additional post-graduate qualificationFRCA/ FICM/ MRCEM/MRCP or equivalentis desirable
  • NHS Trained in intensive care medicine or Anaesthesia to ST6 and above.
  • Able to manage complex airways competently unsupervised and train and support others
  • Able to demonstrate teaching and mentoring of junior doctors
  • Must hold current ALS certificate
