Production Manager sought by a successful business on sustained, profitable growth path, a £20m/80 employee operation, part of a major group. On site processes span milling, fabrication, sheet metal, state of the art CNC laser cutting/folding.Reporting to the Managing Director and with direct reports that include 3 Production Supervisors, a Plant Services Supervisor and Production Engineers, you will ensure that the production team achieves its planned production output of high quality productswhilst maximising efficiency of labour and machinery, minimising waste and ensuring a safe working environment at all times as well as managing a physical inventory of all materials and equipment.You will utilise your enthusiasm and engaging, motivational personality to carry your team on a journey of continuous improvement. Your commercial awareness will be vital in producing diligently prepared proposals for CAPEX which will enhance manufacturingefficiencies and further increase profitability and you will maintain an awareness of developments in the machine tool and related industries to assist you in this regard.As Production Manager you will be an active member of the management team, contributing positively to daily and monthly cross-functional meetings.You will carry out the annual appraisal process, always looking to develop and improve the skills of the team. Leading by example, your approach is to guide, train re-train and encourage, but having the strength of character to take disciplinary action ifall else fails. Naturally you will also be responsible for recruiting, onboarding and retention of staff. You will manage and report on budgets forecasts, standards and KPIs, explaining any significant variances and actions to be taken to correct them, andutilising visual metrics to assist and motivate the production team.Previous management of a production team is essential, as is evidence that continuous improvement strategies have been personally delivered in the past. Some past training in Lean methodologies is desirable and you should have experience of mentoring teammembers in a production environment to develop individuals and maintain a positive culture.Knowledge of the operation of machine tools and general assembly work is essential and knowledge of such processes/materials as sheet metal, castings, machining, bending, welding and assembly. Experience of computer-based ERP and planning systems is alsoessential.Collaborative, confident and keen to help develop people and improve efficiencies and productivity, you are a pragmatic person and a team player. Numerate and analytical you are a proven problem solver with experience of strong cost control. Highly communicativein all situations you are naturally positive with the gravitas to lead a busy manufacturing team.
