Job Description

Senior Estimator - Main Contractor£50,000 - £65,000 HalifaxMy client have been operating since 2003 and have established themsleves as a reputable commercial construction company with their team containing a breadth of knowledge and experience. During this time they have developed an enviable reputation for deliveringhigh quality new build and refurbishment projects valued between £100,000 to £5,000,000.Due to the business seeing continual growth they have identified the need for a new Senior Estimator.The successful candidate must have experience working with a UK based main contractor.The successful candidate will be based within the pre-construction department, you will be working on projects varying in value from £250k to £5m. You will be responsible for preparing detailed estimates from first principles within the necessary time constraints,along with leading the target price review process and implementing contract feedback.The Duties:Daily tasks will change depending on the day and the project but can consist of:

  • Able to produce accurate quotations from drawings & specifications and submit tender returns
  • Prepare rates for each item within the BOQ from first principles
  • Measuring & Taking-Off’ quantities from drawings
  • Liaise with Senior Management and obtain their input into tenders, offers and proposals.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors at tender stage to obtain the most competitive prices ensuring firm quotes are received for significant materials and subcontract items to support the best net estimate
  • Run more than one project at any one time at different stages
  • Requesting further information from Client / Design Team and arrange meetings if required • Attend pre and post contract reviews and client meetings
  • Hand over successful tenders to the construction team
  • Identify opportunities.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to prepare tenders and undertake take offs from construction drawings, reading drawings, understanding specifications and using excel to a good standard.
  • For secured projects attending handover meetings with surveying, design and management.
  • Maintaining accurate records of tender submissions, tender queries and RFI’s.
  • Meeting client on-site to negotiate best price and understand requirements.
  • Researching materials, equipment and labour costs
The Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with main contractor.
  • Making use of relevant computer software such as Excel, Word, and Autodesk DWG TrueView and any future estimating packages.
  • Exceptional written and spoken English skills.
  • Self-motivated personality.
  • Attention to detail with a right first-time attitude.
  • Organisation and time management skills
