Job Description

Hardware and Support Engineer - Newport£Competitive Salary + Bonus + 33 Days Holiday + PensionThe CompanyThe company are an industry leader within the semi-conductor industry with an excellent reputation for training and development and a low turnover of staff due to staff satisfaction and career progression opportunities.Responsibilities:

  • Work with 2D and 3D drawings in SolidEdge and their control in Agile PLM
  • Amend drawings, assembly instructions and BOM structures to support assembly release onto our Agile PLM system and facilitate material acquisition.
  • Communication with multiple internal departments including: Production engineering and Purchasing to ensure efficient material acquisition.
  • Communicate directly with suppliers to check ordered material status, lead times and engineering capabilities.
  • Gather and collate information from ECD colleagues and generate technical documentation for product manuals.
  • Help research suppliers where new supply capabilities are required.
  • Work with ECD design engineers, Production Engineering & Supply Chain to identify cost down opportunities.
  • Support design activities to add insight early in the process lifecycle in terms of ease of manufacture.
  • The Successful Applicant should have the following skills & attributes:
  • Ideally degree qualified with a mechanical or manufacturing engineering background who has actively been involved in a manufacturing environment for at least 4 years.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - able to communicate with people across the business (designers, buyers & suppliers)
  • Should be able to read and interpret technical drawings especially in relation to geometric tolerance, surface finish indication and weld instruction.
  • Have experience of using CAD packages ideally including
  • Have an appreciation of ‘design for manufacture’.
  • Understand manufacturing; specifically machining and fabrication techniques with a good grasp of modern materials and the complexities aligned to outsourcing complex assemblies
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good understanding of supply chain methods.
  • Self-disciplined and pro-active with the desire to grow this role and support the development of the ECD engineering group.
  • Core duties:
  • Nurse material demand through our ordering system to ensure timely material delivery
  • Gather and collate information from ECD colleagues and generate technical documentation for the ECD product manual.
  • Assist in draughting and design release onto our material acquisition system (Agile)
