Job Description

What its like to work here River Wey & Goldalming Navigations & Dapdune Wharf is a tranquil waterway running for nearly 20 miles through the heart of Surrey. The Wey was one of the first British rivers to be made navigable, and opened to barge traffic in 1653. This 15-mile waterway linked Guildford to Weybridge on the Thames, and then to London. What youll be doing Working as part of the River Wey Navigations Maintenance Team and reporting to the Navigations Foreman, you’ll carry out day-to-day routine maintenance, repair and improvement work on water structures and riverbanks as well as using equipment that includes plant, craft and vehicles. It’s a varied role that involves using all sorts of power tools, handling tugs and barges and working to the highest standards of health and safety. You’ll develop a wide variety of skills ranging from carpentry and brickwork to metal treatment and painting. Who were looking for In order to succeed in this role youll have;

  • Familiarity with a range of power tools
  • Awareness or interest in inland waterways
  • Qualification or experience in metal working/welding
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety compliance
