Job Description

Your new roleAs a Paralegal you will join our experienced in-house legal team, delivering a high standard of professional service and client care. You will be responsible for providing legal advice to assist with a wide range of general highways and property law queries, for example; landlord and tenant issues, encroachment, boundary issues and general title queries. As a highly motivated individual you will use this opportunity to grow your experience and career working with experienced and qualified lawyers to become an integral part of the General Counsel team.Highways England are an SRA authorised training contract provider. Paralegals who demonstrate exceptional working practices will be considered for our two year training contract programme.(This is a 2 year FTC)What youll be leading on

  • Drafting and advising licences, wayleave agreements and leases;
  • Assisting lawyers from the property teams with various matters including providing property legal advice on highway schemes, negotiating and advising on property agreements such as lease, contracts for sale and licences;
  • Carrying out title investigations and advising on boundary issues and registration of land queries;
  • Working on instructions to Counsel, Government Legal Departments and external lawyers.
  • Monitoring the team inbox and allocating requests for legal advice;
  • Undertaking any other general legal research as required.
  • To be successful
  • Law degree or Graduate Diploma in Law and completion of the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course and / or relevant experience of highways law, contract drafting or planning law.
  • Knowledge of public law or experience of working in a public law environment would also be an advantage.
  • Excellent client handling skills and experience of working under pressure in a busy office environment.
  • Evidence of excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate across all levels.
