Job Description

Surrey County Council is the Lead Local Flood Authority for the County of Surrey and is responsible for developing and implementing a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy to reduce the effects of flooding on the County’s communities.Surrey County Council’s Flood Risk Management Strategy Team can deliver ambitious objectives in our strategy and implement the lessons learned from recent flood events in ways that are good value and benefit communities and the environment where it is most needed.In reviewing and implementing the strategy we will be developing our knowledge of risk of flooding from all sources, so we can help landowners, local authorities, Internal Drainage Boards and others understand how we can work together to reduce flood risk from single sources and in combination.This will include:

  • Developing effective and efficient partnerships with other Risk Management Authorities and internal partners
  • Engaging community groups and individuals to investigate flood incidents, identify flood mitigation opportunities and improve community resilience
  • Protecting properties and infrastructure from flooding by implementing coordinated investigation, maintenance and engagement work to compliment the capital work programs.
  • The Flood Risk Management Strategy and Partnerships team is a group of5 officers whose role is to review and maintain the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and other strategic plans for managing flood risk. As well as develop relationships with partners and the public and investigate instances of flooding and recommend action.The successful candidate will work in a small team investigatingflood incidents and working to deliver the local Flood Risk Management strategys objectives.To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
  • Some knowledge of the flooding and drainage legislation or similar
  • Experience of site investigations or field work
  • Able to communicate effectively to a varied audience
  • Ability manage a workload of multiple projects and priorities
  • Experience of identifying and delivering actions unsupervised
  • Able to respond to a changing and demanding political and customer environment.
