Job Description

Bioprocess EngineerPirbrightSalary: NegotiableAbout the roleThe purpose of this role is to Interface with Production and Engineering to develop existing biotechnology processes to both reinforce current activities and to develop new processes in line with technology shifts and site road-map:1.)Act as a SME in all aspects of upstream and downstream biologics processing on site2.)Develop existing processes in line with site process road-map and CAPEX plan3.)Develop and introduce new technologies that will support process evolution in line with site output budget commitments4.)Project manage in line with the company capital project directives5.)Be the interface between Production and Engineering to deliver process improvements and capital projects on time and in budgetDuties & Responsibilities:

  • Be an interface between Engineering and Production for manufacturing processes from upstream to fill/finish. Both support and project manage on process improvement initiatives as well as develop and deliver capital projects in line with business need.
  • Collaborate with all related site functions to deliver according to local and the company compliance directives
  • Facilitate changes to existing production processes:
  • -Accountable for installation, commissioning, start-up of new equipment and changes to existing equipment. - -Assist validation of new equipment and changes to existing equipment including document generation. Lead process related capital projects.-Lead improvement projects, continuous improvement projects, and equipment improvement projects.
  • Act as change control owner for equipment and improvement projects:
  • -Assign action items for change control-Accountable for closing out change control action items and documentation.-Documentation includes:*P&ID drawings*Functional specifications*Hardware and software design specifications*Detailed design specifications*FAT testing*Material specifications and other documentation as required.
  • Build network across other company manufacturing and Corporate sites:
  • - Develop knowledge of technologies that have the potential to be used at Pirbright to reinforce and develop existing processes- Identify SMEs across the network that can support with process trouble shooting and improvement- Reinforce existing competencies across bio-processing and engineering functionsWhat experience / skills you need
  • Previous relevant experience as a Process Engineer/Project Engineer/NPI Engineer or similar ideally having working in the pharmaceutical or manufacturing industry
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Bioprocess Engineering/Biotechnolgy or related science from accredited school is desirable
  • Communicate verbally and in writing effectively with all levels of corporate and local management and employees.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, organize, prioritize, and coordinate activities.
  • Ability to understand and work within a regulated environment.
  • Ability to function as a SME contributor in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Applicable experience in a GMP environment or highly regulated environment (ideally Biopharma)
  • Experience leading capital projects.
  • Strong IT skills across MS tools such as MS Projects
  • Knowledge of working in a BSL3 containment facility would be beneficial
