Job Description

We specialise in the recruitment of high quality candidates in the IT support / IT Management sectors. We have an excellent opportunity for a 3rd Line Support Engineer to join a well-known company in the automotive industry, based in Guildford.The role of the 3rd Line Support Engineer is to manage and support the infrastructure across the national footprint, and to be the technical lead on all infrastructure & network project work. The role will provide business as usual support and be the main point of escalation for the IT service desk 2nd line team, which will require direct supervision of a team of two technical analysts.3rd Line Support Engineer’s Core DutiesTechnical

  • BAU - support the IT service desk team in terms of escalations and engaging with end user directly from time to time
    1. Day to day escalation support of desktop, MAC, laptop and printer issues
    2. Support of Windows TS environment issues
    3. Support of cabling and TCP/IP issues
    4. Support of VoIP phones
  • Manage the virtual infrastructure and adhering to change control for the managed service elements in our data centre
  • Provisioning of new server/virtual machines from an infrastructure perspective, patching/monitoring (as required).
  • Assist in ensuring that the infrastructure integrity is managed effectively through confirming that (but not limited to) virus protection, access security, backups and disaster recovery are all in place.
  • Management
  • Effectively plan and control your workload, prioritising as necessary.
  • Ensure effective work under pressure with the ability to group certain tasks and prioritise while managing people’s expectations
  • Meet timescales accordingly, to challenge where necessary
  • Supplier management in terms of maintaining existing relationships, updating/creating documentation, auditing systems and reporting
  • Project Management:
    1. Work closely with the IT manager to design and deliver infrastructure related projects.
    2. Work closely with our managed services partner to adhere to change control and assist with designs and new/improvement plans for the infrastructure
    Service Delivery
  • To log and monitor calls through to resolution at the 3rd line level
  • To provide 3rd line resolution whenever possible
  • To communicate proactively with the users/IT service desk providing feedback and updates as a call progresses
  • To build good relationships with all departments to facilitate problem resolution
  • To promote the positive image of the Service Desk and the Service Delivery department
  • 3rd Line Support Engineer’s Key Requirements
  • Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012 R2, 2016
  • Specifically, in a virtual environment (VMWare ESX), building from a template, roles, troubleshooting
  • Microsoft Active Directory 2008 R2/2012/2016
  • Solid technical understanding and experience of AD from Forest/Domain/Replication level to GPO’s, Kerberos and Authentication.
  • Microsoft Exchange 2010/Exchange on line
  • Hybrid environment, CAS roles, DAG, CMDLets, Mimecast, Advanced Threat Protection
  • Scripting - Powershell and basic VBS
  • Microsoft SQL 2008/2012 - Administration - Basic level, SSMS
  • VMWare VCP ideally, ESX 6.5+
  • Adding/Removing ESX servers, attaching storage/zoning/multi pathing (FC/iSCSI), virtual switching, ballooning/troubleshooting/clustering/CPU affinity
  • Veeam ver 8x/9x
  • Storage experience, iSCSI/Fibre, HP MSA (IBM nice to have)
  • Maintaining/firmware upgrades, comfortable with the fabric, provisioning LUN’s, connectivity
  • Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching
  • CCNA level, VPN’s, VLAN, ACL’s, MPLS/BGP
  • Linux - basic ability to perform admin functions
  • Office 365
  • SCCM experience
  • Application & messenger support experience
