Job Description

We are excited to have been successful in securing Core 24 Liaison psychiatry funding and are looking to recruit an experienced mental health practitioner on a part time basis. The successful applicant will join the motivated, engaging and dynamic existing liaison psychiatry team based at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital Grimsby. The role will be work x2 11.5 hour shifts (1 hour break) per week to include nights and weekends.In the last year the team have been awarded Navigo Team of the Year 2020 as well as The Chairs Award 2020, for their dedication and compassion to patient care.We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic mental health care professionals, mental health nurse or social workers, who have a minimum of 2 years post qualification or equivalent experience in mental health services. You will need to show within interview an interest and understanding of the unique nature of liaison psychiatry. We need team members who understand the essential role that liaison plays within the Acute hospital and the relationship this team has within the Access team, which is where it sits for NAViGO. If you are an external applicant we strongly advise making contact to get both an understanding of this role and the nature of Navigo and the wider services it provides. The team is forward thinking and wants its members to actively engage in the service development. You will need excellent mental health and risk assessment skills, with good verbal and written communication skills, and be prepared to work in what at times, is a challenging environment. You must be able to work autonomously whilst understanding your own limitations. The role encompasses working as part of an expanding psychiatric liaison team providing a liaison and assessment service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.You will offer an assessment service to patients aged 18+ (with no upper age limit, but inclusive to younger people under the care of Navigo’s Early intervention Team) presenting at the general hospital with a broad range of mental health, psychological problems, and diagnosed psychiatric illnesses. You will provide mental health consultation, liaison and advice service throughout Navigo and external agencies. A large part of your role will be responding to emergency mental health presentations who present at A&E, following thoughts or acts of self harm/suicide attempts or present with symptoms of possible acute mental illness. You will plan patient care and refer onwards to the most appropriate service and act as a gatekeeper to inpatient services.This is a very exciting yet challenging role that requires autonomous, dedicated, empathic and resilient team members. You will deliver a range of evidence based psychosocial interventions to individual patients as required. You will assist and support general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations. You must understand the principles of the relevant legislation.You will provide formal and informal education, and case consultation to registered and unregistered staff. You will join a team who are dedicated and proud of the service they provide and represent mental health services within Diana Princess of Wales Hospital.You will provide a communication structure between secondary mental health services, primary care and non-statutory services, as a means of ensuring the highest possible standards of patient care.The liaison team is part of Access Team based at Harrison House in Grimsby; however the primary office for Liaison is at our general hospital site at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.If you want to discuss this advert further and we would be delighted to speak on the phone or via video conferencing options, please ring Lucy Spiring or Ali Cook on ext 14359
