Job Description

Our client, a global pharma company are currently recruiting for a Senior Scientist within theirPermeability and Transporters Team, based in the North West of England.The successful candidate will report to the Permeability & Transporter Team Leader.The ideal applicant will haveextensive experience of coordinating/managing in vitro ADME/DMPK assay operational delivery for a team orspecific extensive operational and scientific experience of regulatory in vitro permeability/drug transporter assays and coordination of R&D projects, to work in primarily an office-based role (with some lab-based elements) within a fast-paced commercial environment.The Primary Responsibilities include:-

  • Support high and low throughput permeability screening and uptake/efflux transporter profiling assays for commercial as well as research and development activities.
  • To be a point of contact both operationally and scientifically for Team Leaders, Heads of Function, Business Development colleagues and Study Managers responding to client requests/questions.
  • Continuous improvement champion within the team, coordinating large and small-scale projects, with detailed awareness of assay design and current costings.
  • Direct line management of junior scientists in the team and coaching and mentoring of other members of the team to develop them operationally and scientifically.
    • Other responsibilities may include:
  • Operational management of the team - leading scheduling of resources, allocation of tasks to meet team and company deadlines and objectives (including R&D goals) with awareness of daily/weekly priorities.
  • Co-ordination and collaboration with other senior staff across functions to maximise laboratory utilisation and effective use of personnel, with awareness of safety and quality.
  • Scientific management of the team - drive team forward scientifically and work closely with Principal Scientist (Team Leader)/Associate Principal Scientist to coordinate/deliver team R&D strategy, whilst working collaboratively with the Senior Laboratory Supervisor from an operational perspective.
  • To keep up to date with scientific literature advances, developments and regulatory guidelines in the area of drug transporter science in order to promote the Permeability and Transporter Team scientifically both internally and externally.
    • Experience, Skills & Qualifications
  • Specific technical and scientific knowledge around permeability and drug transporter assays and their interpretation would be advantageous. A candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects/activities and demonstrate a results-driven approach.
  • Strong leadership competencies are also required, specifically the ability to coach, develop and motivate a team as well as the ability to enable change and inspire a sense of purpose & direction in others.
  • Minimum of a degree in an ADME/DMPK related science with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in industry in either pharma/biotech or contract research organisations in a lab-based leadership
