Were looking for a highly motivated individual interested in pursuing innovative research to highlight and demonstrate how we can organise, present and share heritage science data in a standardised way, to ensure that it is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable.You will play a key role in the National Gallerys (NG) contribution to the SSHOC (H2020 - project. SSHOC brings together a consortium of almost 50 partners, organisations, projects and institutions, from across Europe, to develop the use of digital technologies in the social sciences and humanities. This 9-month fixed-term role will be responsible for demonstrating the practical processes involved with creating fully semantic, standardised, machine-readable FAIR Heritage Science datasets, and represents a major part of our contribution to the SSHOC project. You will be the primary NG project researcher, involved with every aspect of our work, collaborating with all relevant partners to fulfil the projects research goals. A key focus will include the development of two existing sources of Heritage Science data, re-formatting and mapping them to existing standard ontologies. This will involve working with a variety of NG and SSHOC researchers, along with other specialists in the field, to ensure the work follows current best practice. You will then evaluate how the new versions of the two data-sets can be presented and made more accessible, to machines and human users, exploring the development of existing web-based solutions, such as Research Space. This role will give you the opportunity to work with researchers from multiple backgrounds and levels of technical know-how. You will collaborate with other researchers across SSHOC and via a number of other current, related, research projects, such as Linked Art ( ) and Linked Conservation Data ( ). You will coordinate your research and actively participate in all user engagement, dissemination, exploitation, innovation and impact activities, related to NG involvement in SSHOC.You will be expected to be an experienced researcher, with significant practical computing experience, and a good understanding of semantic knowledge representations. A PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. digital humanities or a data-rich humanities field, computer science, chemistry, conservation, etc) and further research experience in relevant areas are required. Equivalent post-graduate level experience in a relevant subject, or project work in a research environment, will also be considered. This exciting role will give you the opportunity to have a real impact on how Heritage Science data can be shared and reused. Documenting clear procedures and recommendations, which can be followed in future work and exploited through future European research infrastructures such as E-RIHS ( ). Like numerous organisations many of our employees are working from home during the Coronavirus Pandemic and this is expected to continue for at least the near future. This role will be based at The National Gallery, London, but the successful candidate will initially be expected to work from home. The Gallery is also happy to talk about more general flexible working moving forward. Any further information and updates will be provided during the recruitment process.
