Job Description

We have a market leading environment team undertaking a diverse range of cutting edge work in a range of sectors for a range of clients some of whom are household names. The work of the team covers three broad areas(i) advisory work on a range of topics waste duty of care, end of waste, MEES, REACH, (ii) transactional work in relation to real estate, corporate and infrastructure projectsthe sale of landfill sites, the closure and sale of permitted facilities, large scale renewable and other energy projects,and the sale and purchase of regulated facilities, (iii) contentious work in relation to both investigations and enforcement by regulators, as well as third party claims toocriminal prosecutions for environmental offences, the negotiation of civil sanctions,third party claims relating to environmental incidents and issues. The team also frequently deliver training for clients on a range of topics, write regular client updates and provide comment to the environmental press.The team is engaged in a number of sectorbodies and organisationsUKELA, IEMA, CIWM.The Regulatory Department which the Environment Team sits within is very diverse, offering a broad range of expert advice to organisations and individuals facing Health & Safety, criminal and other regulatory prosecutions. The department also advises Trustsand organisations on issues ranging from best interest decisions to DPA requests and inquests, as well as healthcare professionals facing possible criminal and professional regulatory sanctions.Thesuccessfulwill provide advice and support across broad client sectors on environmental incidents, litigation and compliance.Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide advice to a broad range of clients on their environmental risks, responsibilities and compliance requirements
  • To ensure you maintain an up to date knowledge of environmental legal developments
  • Assist with business development initiatives including training and networking
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans values and procedures
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets

  • An experienced environmental lawyer circa 5 years PQE + or equivalent
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience of supporting and developing junior team members
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
