Job Description

Our mission is simple… to help the world Love Mondays.We require experienced Digital Forensics & Cybercrime Investigators to support the National Investigation Service.You will be working in the Digital Forensics Unit, responsible for the identification, recovery, analysis and reporting on examination of computer related material in criminal, civil or disciplinary investigation and you willprovide professional evidence in criminal casework, appearing at criminal courts in prosecution action, anywhere in the UK.

  • To investigate allegations of fraud, corruption or other irregularity alleged to have been committed against the council or its partners, including jointly with other agencies.
  • To maintain the highest level of integrity and performance in delivering services to the council and partners.
  • To have a broad knowledge of employment law in relation to internal investigations and disciplinary action.
  • To attend search and seizure operations executed by the department against criminals, anywhere in the UK, providing expert advice on the correct identification and seizure of computer related material. This may require overnight stays and weekend working.
  • To undertake examinations of electronic material seized in criminal investigations, this may include computers, mobile phones and other devices.
  • To produce professional reports to investigation teams, lawyers and other key stakeholders on your findings, supported by a professional witness statement where required.
  • To ensure compliance with all aspects of the NATIS Investigation Manual and Circulars such as in relation to the recording of investigation activity, particularly in respect of Health and Safety issues when working off-site and outside core hours.
  • To undertake visits to suspects, witnesses and other organisation and to obtain witness statements in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act and Civil Procedure Rules where applicable.
  • To prepare and make applications for the authorisation of covert surveillance activity, the obtaining of communications data and the use of a covert human intelligence source. To complete and submit application, review, renewal and cancellation forms in respect of these activities in accordance within the statutory time frames.
  • To prepare for, and undertake, covert surveillance with other officers. To prepare and deliver operation orders and briefings for such activity to other staff, police officers and other agencies.
  • To have input into applications for search and seizure warrants around electronic material.
  • To prepare applications for assistance from other agencies in joint arrest and search operations and to brief officers prior to the operation.
  • To act as first or second officer in interviews under caution conducted in accordance with the Police & Criminal Evidence Act.
  • To give evidence at court as a professional witness.
  • To close files on completion of investigations, taking necessary action to ensure that relevant facts are recorded.
  • To prepare and deliver relevant training to colleagues in the department and other partners on forensic computer related matters when required.
  • To contribute to suggestions for the improvement of procedures and service provision.
