Job Description

Howdens Joinery are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager with extensive knowledge of Payroll activities, concepts, and legislation to be based at our site in Howden, East Yorkshire. This role offers an opportunity for the Payroll Manager to participatein key business initiatives, including system testing, development and roll-out, along with engagement with key business partners to ensure policy and practice changes are implemented in an effective manner.Whatyou will be doing asPayroll Manager:Reporting to the Group Payroll Manager you will oversee weekly, monthly, divisional and group payroll activities, while striving to maintain the highest standard of controls. As our Payroll Manager you will ensure accurate processing of the payroll, resourceplanning, acquiring, and disseminating current legislation information, and company policies, and maintaining procedural documentation to ensure that adequate contingency measures are in place.A dynamic people manager you will lead, motivate, and develop your team members, planning the payroll departments activities, managing operational risk, and investigating opportunities to drive and implement process improvements. A key role within the payrolldepartment, you will work closely with the Group Payroll Manager, assisting with year-end routines and supporting with internal and external audits of the payroll function.What do I need to qualify as Payroll Manager:

  • Prior payroll management experience in a dynamic payroll environment is essential.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll activities, concepts, and legislation.
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel.
  • Understanding of HR principles and processes.
  • High level of numeric and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to produce exceptionally accurate work within stringent and conflicting deadlines.
  • Risk aware and with capability to develop and maintain strong process controls.
  • Strong organisational skills and process orientation.
  • Excellent verbal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Must be prepared to take ownership of tasks and show commitment to team goals.
  • Highly motivated and flexible to meet the department’s requirements.
  • Management skills; motivating, appraising, and training.
  • Highly organised - planning, coordination & delegation.
