Location: Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, PerthSalary: Up to £49,000 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonusWorking Pattern: Permanent |Full Time Hours with flexible working patterns available |37 hours per weekOur RoleAs Substation Project Engineer, youll provide specialist electrical engineering support on high profile and technically complex substation projects. This includes reviewing or approving designs and subsequent documents through the development and execution phases including SLDs, Stage by Stage Diagrams, Electrical layouts and Scopes of Work.You will supervise (but not line manage) and direct engineers within your discipline and using your technical expertise drive decision making through peer review of key issues.You will be expected to promote best practice within substation design through suggested improvements in specifications, technology options and management of engineering risks, which will require close liaison with subject matter experts within Transmission.You will also take a key role in managing the performance of consultants and contractors supporting the delivery of our significant portfolio of work, including getting ready for delivering our £2.2 billion RIIO-T2 plan.Your Skills and ExperienceThe ideal candidate for this role will be degree qualified in electrical engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline, and ideally be a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards chartered status. You will have demonstrable experience in transmission development / design / specification and be comfortable to technically assess issues and/or problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions.An excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation, including CDM and ESQCR, and the implications of this for transmission network management is essential.Effective communication skills are essential, and you must be able to communicate often complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management. You will be confident working alongside key stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally with an appetite for building strong, lasting relationships.Our CompanyAt Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of Scotland and central southern England.Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.We have seen unprecedented growth in renewable generation in the north of Scotland over the previous decade which has triggered significant investment in growing and improving our transmission network.
