The question is – are you ready to bring yoursWere on the hunt for a Senior Technology Specialist for IBM Mainframe to join our Technology Operations Core team manging production service, providing consultation to projects, defining Core technology roadmaps and direction. If you like a fast-paced role that will challenge you, then please read on!This role in a nutshell:As a Consulting Sysprog, you’ll become part of the Core Team within Technology Operations. Technology Operations provide technical expertise to support the running of the Bank. You’ll work across several the Banks change initiatives and provide consultancy and expertise on our Core platforms to Business and Technical stakeholders at all levels. You’ll take a leading role in ensuring that our Core platforms meet the challenges of the ever-increasing service delivery expectations as well as providing consultancy and expertise in our platforms to support the Virgin Money digital journey.To be successful you’ll need to bring:

  • Experienced in the operation of IBM mainframe technologies including many of: Z/OS, JCL, VSAM, MQ, CICS, DS storage, FileAid, Innovation Access Method, Omegamon and SYSB-II.
  • Proven experience of technical leadership in a mainframe operational team, with a strong ability to make sound technical decisions and communicate them to both technical and business stakeholders.
  • A passion for sharing your IT knowledge, and for mentoring technical colleagues.
  • A desire and aptitude to continually grow your own knowledge and skills, and help others do the same.
  • A good working knowledge of IT Core Banking platform.
  • A sound understanding of the principles of resilience and operability.
  • An ability to work under pressure, including out of hours, in a live incident environment where customer service can be severely impacted or regulatory sanctions to the bank may be imminent.
  • An understanding of hardware, networking and software management.
  • Excellent communication skills and a flair for influencing, persuasion and presentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-changing environment.
  • An aptitude to quickly assimilate and understand complex changes in order to efficiently present information to identify issues and consider solutions.
  • Practical experience of IT in a technical support role.
  • We’d love you to have:
  • Have held a role as a senior, consultant Sysprog or Technical lead for mainframe operations.
  • Experience of mainframe infrastructure design.
  • Experience managing technical relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Experience of identifying, quantifying and communicating technical risk.
  • Good understanding of the Financial sector - sound business acumen and judgment; ability to see and communicate technology challenges in business terms; ability to understand and deliver business value.
  • Experience of facilitating large groups of technical and business people to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
