Job Description

Senior Scientist – GlasgowA rapidly expanding SME in the field of stem cell characterisation, molecular biology and diagnostics are now looking to recruit a Senior Scientist to stay ahead of demand. Here presents a great opportunity to work with a modern new age business where career prospects remain high.My client pioneers in performing robust microRNA profiling and analyses for an increasing client database, including stem cell and cell therapy product development and pharmaceutical research. You will play a key role in the continued development of their microRNA-based product portfolio.As Senior Scientist you will carry out critical roles in client contract fulfilment and internal R&D efforts, utilising both microarray and PCR-based technologies to analyse microRNA expression from a variety of sources.Responsibilities• Develop microRNA-based applications to assess drug discovery and development, cell quality control and tools to assess stem cell differentiation utilising the companys proprietary technologies.• Work across all application development teams within the company.• Support the product development programmes.• To communicate and collaborate with others to develop the appropriate methods and tools that enhance or extend their product range.• To manage and supervise the activity of more junior workers/students when required.Reporting to the Head of Scientific Operations you will provide significant input to ensure projects are planned and executed to agreed timelines, while ensuring that data quality is maintained as projects progress.Essential experience required:• Prior experience of working with customers and developers.• Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.• Ability to maintain meticulous laboratory records.• Experience in managing time and prioritising workload.• Comfortable working on their own or as part of a larger team.• The ability to lead a small team and communicate with people internal and external to the company.• Evidence of significant contributions to the production of manuscripts to report their results.• Familiarity with tissue culture models for in vitro pharmacology• Good general laboratory skills in relation to RNA molecular biology.• Analysis of mRNA using quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR)Desirable:• Experience of planning miRNA profiling experiments and analysis of the resultant datasets;• Experience in the use of software for analysis of the likely biological impact of identified miRNA/mRNA alterations in experimental systems.• Experience in the culture of primary cells including stem cells• Familiarity with techniques for profiling microRNA in cells and tissuesQualifications:• A minimum of a BSc at 2:1 in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline• 5+ years previous laboratory experience including drug studies using tissue culture model systems, RNA molecular biology, transcriptomics and PCR detection methods.• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects to deadlines.• Experience of managing a team.Desirable qualifications:• Exposure to and knowledge of microRNA biology and analysis techniques• A PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline• Knowledge of assay design and troubleshootingApply now and without delay.
