As well as being one of the largest and most dynamic drug and alcohol service providers in Europe, we are also at the forefront of service developments in many areas including responding to complex needs, rolling out new long acting depo treatments and pioneering Heroin Assisted Treatment in Scotland. The existing full-time Senior Medical Officer (SMO) post offers a rare opportunity to split your time between management and clinical responsibilities, providing dynamic clinical leadership to the community based medical and prescribing workforce and supporting managers, enabling the delivery of safe and effective alcohol and drug recovery services. In addition, the SMO will directly manage a caseload of complex patients, with the support of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be a strong leader who has significant clinical addictions experience and is able to make sound clinical decisions in complex scenarios. They will have experience of contributing to management, care governance and service development and demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills. The SMO will also be expected to contribute centrally to service developments, partnership working groups, teaching and training and other managerial undertakings as directed by the Lead Clinician or Associate Medical Director.Candidates should hold full GMC registration with licence to practice and either be GPs with considerable experience in substance misuse or psychiatrists who have completed their CCT with addiction endorsement.
