Job Description

As part of our Internal Technical Support (ITS) team, youll could be working on a huge variety of projects from combat aircraft and armoured vehiclesto submarines, body armour and aircraft carriers. By ensuring military equipment is safe to operate with world-leading capabilities, this team makes a big difference to projects integral to supporting the Armed Forces.Safety Engineers can choose theirpermanent workstation from the list below:MOD Manchester, Piccadilly Gate, Store Street, Manchester, M1 2WDKentigern House, 65 Brown Street, Glasgow, G2 8EXRNAS Yeovilton, Ilchester, Somerset, BA22 8HTWattisham Flying Station, 2 Valley Road, Ipswich, Suffolk,IP7 7REDue to the nature of the projects involved, some of these roles will require applicants to be sole UK nationals.Responsibilities for Safety EngineerAs a Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:Developingartefacts/evidence used in the assessment of environmental/safety risk, and considering the implications of changes to equipment design, offering mitigation advice in the processProviding advice and support to colleagues, ensuring that appropriate safety requirementsare correctly applied and delivered in contractsCreating and implementing safety management systems for products, services or systems, as either part of design or in-service supportInterpreting and applying safety policy for the design and support of platformsand equipmentUtilising your exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills to offer all of the above services across multiple areas, including Maritime, Land, Weapons, Air and Submarines, ensuring that your solutions are understood and appropriatelyexecutedWhat you will be assessed againstTo be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the followingessentialcriteria:Hold a minimum of a Level 4 (e.g. HNC) qualification in an engineering or science discipline, or will demonstrateequivalent relevant industry experienceHave demonstrable experience using a range of safety tools and techniques, to provide advice and guidance on complex projects, e.g. Hazard Log Management; Hazard Identification; Risk Assessment and ALARP (As Low AsReasonably Practicable) justificationsHave experience in the development and writing of safety artefacts in support of compelling safety bodies of evidenceIn addition to the responsibilities above, the followingtechnical competencies and behaviourswillbe assessed at interview:Compliance with Policy (Practitioner)Complies with Systems Safety Requirements (Practitioner)Communicating and influencingChanging and improvingWhats in it for youPlease note, our salary bands are under review and may increase.If the outcome of the review results in an increase in the minimum salary and your salary offer falls below the new minimum, your salary will be increased to the new amount from your contracted start date.
