Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and ClydeDepartment of Clinical Physics and Bio-EngineeringNuclear Medicine – North East Sector GlasgowPrincipal Clinical ScientistBand 8APart Time – 22.5hrs (0.6wte)Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Clinical Scientist to assist in the provision of a comprehensive nuclear medicine and bone densitometry service with the North East Sector of Glasgow, including the large teaching department of nuclear medicine at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and within the purpose built nuclear medicine facility at Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital. You will work 22.5 hours per week within our large multidisciplinary nuclear medicine team.The sector has 3 state of the art SPECT-CT double headed gamma cameras, cell labelling facilities, non-imaging equipment and a Hologics DEXA scanner. The work load (around 10000 patients per annum) is varied and includes imaging, non-imaging and therapeutic administrations of radioisotopes and a large DEXA workload including fracture liaison and direct access service. As well as a large routine workload there is plenty of opportunity for service development and research. You will have an excellent chance to work as part of a large and enthusiastic team consisting clerical, scientific, nursing and medical staff (including consultant physicians and radiologists).Glasgow has undergone considerable regeneration in the last 20 years. The city has a wealth of cultural experience on offer, including many famous art galleries and museums. Glasgow is the home of Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, as well as several internationally renowned orchestras. The city is within 30 minutes of the beautiful Loch Lomond area and an easy drive to several ski areas. The city is a perfect base for those interested in outdoor pursuits such as climbing, walking and mountain biking.You should be able to demonstrate evidence of experience in nuclear medicine or imaging. You must be state registered clinical scientists (Physics) on the register of the Health Professions Council and must be able to be entitled as a medical physics expert. You should have a First or upper second class honours degree in physics/applied physics, a DipIPEM(S) and an MSc in medical physics or equivalent.Prospective applicants can discuss the post informally with Dr Alison Bolster ( / or 4762).
