After all, support is in our name.Job descriptionAre you an Engineer looking to develop your career and work on the most complex and capable Warship that DE&S has ever procuredThis is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of the Ship Acquisition Type 26 Global Combat Ship (T26 GCS) team. The Type 26 Global Combat ship is the latest in a long line of maritime capability generation for the Royal Navy. With a multi-role missionbay and a flight deck capable of landing a range of large helicopters, it will provide the capability and flexibility to compete in both modern and future threat environments. This role will oversee the installation of power and propulsion equipment, shaftalignment and engagement with the ship builder to complete the propulsion commissioning programme.In return, we will offer you professional development, job stability, the chance to work on high profile projects, as well as providing a great work/life balance and an array of other benefits which come with being a member of the Civil Service.Please be advised that attendance at the stated site will be required and should live within commuting distance of Scotstoun as this job offers limited opportunity to work from home at an agreed schedule with the Delivery Manager.Please note, these are demanding roles with activities that may include, but are not limited to, climbing vertical ladders, working at height and in confined spaces - suitable training will be provided.Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop assurance activities on Power and Propulsion related systems, through manufacture, integration and acceptance.
  • Ensuring contractual requirements are maintained throughout the shipbuilding process and that all customer stakeholders are informed on build progress and escalation activities.
  • Reviewing all relevant manufacturing information prior to the installation of equipment to de-risk the programme.
  • Reviewing and providing input into commissioning plans and acceptance activities.
  • Liaising with Joint Assurance and Acceptance Team (JAAT) members to develop and enhance audit plans of build surveillance, ensuring all aspects of power and propulsion related activities are covered.
  • Recording and actioning deviations from design or process to de-risk programme schedule.
  • Liaising with the customer engineering authority to ensure Whole Ship Design Requirements are understood and met.
  • Represent the JAAT at stakeholder reviews and technical forums.
Person specificationTo be successful with your application, youll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
  • A minimum of a HNC qualification (e.g., Level 4) in an engineering subject, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferably in a maritime domain
  • Member of a relevant Professional Engineering / Science Institute or equivalent body
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
