Job Description

We want to talk to Mechanical Fitters or Mechanical Technicians who might be interested in joining the rail sector and become a Locomotive Technician for a rail freight company, based in Glasgow. As a Locomotive Technician, you will be helping to keep therail network moving as well as being a key player in the UK and European supply chain.Neverthought about working in the rail industry Here’s some reasons why you should consider it….

LocationGlasgowRole and Responsibilities
  • Carry out general mechanical maintenance across all rolling stock rail vehicles on a variety of components such as air braking, hydraulic systems & diesel engines.
  • You’ll need to be adaptable, able to work within a changing environment as priorities and tasks will vary depending on business needs.
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Working to written maintenance instructions (VMOI) to complete examinations and inspections of the trains you will be working with.
  • Working to engineering drawings and diagrams.
The CandidateThe ideal candidate will be a skilled mechanical technician with experience of working on large vehicles such as heavy plant, HGV’s, coaches, buses or military vehicles. Alternatively, perhaps you worked as a Master Technician maybe on light vehicles orlight goods vehicles. Or perhaps you worked on aircraft or within the aerospace industry on maintenance hangars and looking to take a step into something new Or maybe you are ex forces or in the forces looking to join civilian life, then this could be theopportunity you have been looking for!Essential Criteria
  • Experience in maintenance and fault finding within a transport related engineering environment.
  • Knowledge or experience of diesel or petrol engines or generators.
  • You must have a minimum Level 3 qualification, or equivalent, in an engineering / mechanical / electrical discipline.
  • Ability to navigate engineering drawings, blueprints, and diagrams, written technical instructions and manuals and follow processes.
  • Full UK driving licence or locality to the depot.
Shift Pattern
  • Shifts are across a 3-shift pattern, you will work some nights and weekends, please strongly consider this before applying, we require all candidates to be comfortable with shift working before we submit any CVs to the client.
  • The standard hours per week are 42 hours on average, depending on the specific shifts required to work.
  • Overtime will be available to enhance earnings should you wish to take advantage.
