Job Description

In so doing, they seek to make a positive, sustainable contribution to both the UK economy and society.On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for a Legal Negotiator for an initial 6-month long contract based in Glasgow (hybrid).As a Legal Negotiator, you will be:

  • Providing high quality, efficient legal advice and assistance to a variety of internal stakeholders in negotiating and agreeing a wide range of trading/derivatives contractual documentation including the ISDA, GMRA, clearing addendums, give-ups, EFET Agreementsand collateral arrangements.
  • Reviewing, negotiating, and drafting master agreement documentation effectively on the banks behalf, whilst ensuring consistent and rigorous legal risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Conducting legal analysis on counterparty legal entity types and jurisdictions and advising on the inclusion of relevant bespoke terms.
  • Communicating clearly and concisely both internally and externally with clients and their counsel.
  • Supporting the existing programme of preparing procedures, precedents, templates, user manuals and training in relation to the above areas of advice.
  • Working with our colleagues in local and global Legal teams to share resource across business lines and jurisdictions, and communicate with all clients regularly, maintaining strong relationships.
The team often liaises with asset managers acting on behalf of multiple principals and often for a variety of counterparty types, such as hedge funds, regulated funds, insurance companies, pension funds and trusts, banks and corporates based globally. Capacitychecks are vital for certain counterparty types and often include obtaining and reviewing legal advice from external counsel.Other key responsibilities will involve the negotiation and timely execution of the referenced agreements and co-ordination throughout this process with all internal stakeholders to ensure all requisite approvals are obtained and internal guidelines areadhered to. You will also ensure that the business is kept up to date at all times as to the status of negotiations and active management of the portfolios. The time split will generally be 80% ISDA/CSA related with the remaining 20% taken up by other agreementtypes.Who are we looking forThis role would be suitable for a bright engaged paralegal or recent law graduate with a strong academic background, who can demonstrate the ability to develop into this role and begin building a career in the legal aspect of investment banking.Preferred skills / experience include:
  • Experience in contractual negotiations of any variety.
  • Enthusiasm for an in-house legal role in the investment banking sector.
  • Attention to detail, independent, thorough, and dynamic, with excellent communication and drafting skills.
  • Team player with strong communication, time management, and prioritisation skills.
  • Prior knowledge of the ISDA, GMRA or other master agreement documentation would be helpful but is not essential as comprehensive training will be provided by internal experts.
Undergraduate LLB graduates would be preferred but we are open to considering candidates from all backgrounds who show a willingness to learn, can demonstrate a commercial background and have a genuine interest in the role.Full training on all relevant documentation and bank policies will be provided and you will be expected to maintain awareness of legal developments and guidelines to ensure that any master agreements negotiated on behalf of the bank remain within enforceablelegal frameworks.If you are interested in applying for this position and meet the criteria outlined above, please click the link to apply and we will contact you with an update in due course.
