Job Description

CK Group is recruiting for a Laboratory and Quality Assurance Manager to join a manufacturer of chemical products, to be based at their site in Glasgow on a full time, permanent basis.The Company:Our client manufactures a variety of chemicals used in industry sectors such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and automotive applications. They are certified to ISO9001, HACCP, Kosher, Halal and certain automotive standards. This role wouldsuit an experienced analyst with a chemistry/ chemicals background, either at managerial level already or ready to take the next step up. Experience of managing quality management systems, and ideally regulatory affairs, is essential, as is being a sound communicator.The company offers a salary in the region of £40,000pa depending on experience, as well as 29 days holiday + 4 bank holidays, pension and an early finish on a Friday.Location:The Lab Manager will based at the companys site in Glasgow, easily commutable from Edinburgh and elsewhere in the central belt.Your main duties will be:

  • To lead and co-ordinate a laboratory team to provide a professional service for functions such as, but not limited to, Technology, Operations, SHE, purchasing and customer care to enable the company to deliver profitable products in a timely and cost-effectivemanner
  • To drive continuous improvement within the laboratory to produce reliable analytical data by combining processes that promote efficiency with technology appropriate to the laboratory mission and operated by staff that are both trained and competent to performthe work
  • To support The Quality Manager in delivering an effective quality system
  • Provide effective leadership and management of the Quality Control & Assurance functions
  • Take ownership of lab COSHH, chemical register, equipment maintenance, spares, lab consumables and calibrations within the laboratory
  • Deliver reliable efficient analysis of products to enable control of product quality
  • Take responsibility for annual external compliance testing (Food Safety standards)
  • Take responsibility for Legionella L8 risk assessment and management of associated L8 requirements (e.g. cooling tower control)
  • Take responsibility for Internal audit management
  • Liaises with Warehouse and Planning to ensure availability of product to meet customers expectations
Your Background:The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience:
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Chemistry
  • Broad analytical hands on testing expertise with techniques such as TGA, UV-Vis, AA, particle size analysis, water effluent testing, etc.
  • Consolidated and demonstrable experience in lab management within the Chemical Manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in applying quality and statistical tools to improve performance.
  • Experience of dealing with regulatory standards, audits etc. (e.g. ISO9001, HACCP)
  • Internal auditing trained in ISO9001 (preferred)
  • Demonstrates ability to liaise effectively between laboratory and plant and learn process capabilities of plant
