Job Description

Infrastructure, Virtualisation, Network Administrator and Integration EngineerWould you like to be involved in developing and delivering the Combat System Shared Infrastructure programme for the new Type 26 Frigate We currently have a number of exciting opportunities for Infrastructure, Virtualisation & Network Integration Engineersin Scotstoun/Portsdown.These roles will involve weekly travel to Portsmouth throughout 2021-2023 (all associated costs covered), and then based permanently in Glasgow from early 2023 for integration activities in the First of Class build programme.In this role you will provide Infrastructure, Network and Virtualisation engineering expertise and experience relevant to the BAE Systems Shared Infrastructure product into the T26 Combat Systems Integration Test & Trials programme. Youll be responsiblefor the technical administration of an operational Data Centre and developing the Software, System and Release Management practices and procedures to enable its operation.You will be working on development, conduct, analysis of and support to Shared Infrastructure and Combat System Equipment integration, acceptance, assurance and de-risking activities to be conducted at the Land Based Integration Facility, on one of the newest,most complex next generation naval ships.Your main responsibilities as an Infrastructure, Virtualisation and Network Administrator & Integration will involve:

  • To be a System Administrator for the Data Centre of the systems that make up the Type 26 Combat System.
  • Implement and develop the System Management processes and software procedures to enable operation of the Shared Infrastructure in testing of the T26 Combat System at Portsdown.
  • Undertake the preparations for, conduct of, analysis and formal reporting of test, integration and acceptance trials for Shared Infrastructure as required to support the T26 Combat System Programme at the Land Based Integration Facility, OEM sites and on-boardthroughout the ship build process.
  • Generate, deliver and review Test, Trials and Acceptance documentation.
  • Support the activity of the wider T26 CS Integration Test and Trials team and the T26 CSE Delivery Managers through the provision of specialist Shared Infrastructure expertise as required.
Your skills and qualifications:
  • Knowledge and experience of Virtualisation technologies, Networks, Software Configuration and Release Management.
  • Understanding and experience of the testing and integration of IT Hardware and Software in a security focused environment, preferably in a Defence Environment.
  • Ability to generate Test Documentation from Requirements, Interface Specifications and other Supplier documentation, to conduct the Test Schedules and analyse and report results.
  • Knowledge of key technologies / protocols including VMware, ESXI, ESXTOP, VMware Horizon, SAN, DNS, DHCP, IP, Switching/Routing, HTTP, NTP, VDI (PCoIP / RDP / VCN ) etc. is required
  • Experience working with any of the following; Switches (Juniper & Dell), Routers, Firewalls, Servers, Fibre Optics, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP (Ethernet)
