Our highly respected Higher Education client require a Handy person to work with their Mechanical Services Team for a period of 6 months.This role is based in Glasgow city centre and has an hourly pay rate of £9.72 per hour. Working Hours are 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday (35 hours per week)Role OutlineThe Mechanical Services Handyperson team has a normal staff compliment of 8 Operatives (Foreman included) and is an extremely busy Section within the Estates Services Works Management team.Based in Mechanical Services Section of Estates Management a vacancy exists for Mechanical Services Handyperson. A working knowledge of an engineering and maintenance environment is essential and a clean current driving licence would be advantageous. You will assist trades staff in heating/ventilating/plumbing systems repairs and alterations as well as more general handyperson duties.Job DescriptionTo assist trades staff in all aspects of heating/ventilating/plumbing repairs. This can include replacement of air handing plant, modifications to pipework and drainage systems, boiler overhaul and inspection, water storage tank inspection and domestic hot and cold-water services repairs.Main Activities/Responsibilities:Enabling works in advance of legislative Insurance inspection of steam boiler plantWater quality Legionella prevention works in compliance with L8 Code of Practice i.e. Shower head de-scaling; checking outlets for correct water temperature parameters; flushing of infrequently used outletsStatutory testing of thermostatic mixing valves completing necessary recordsStatutory testing of fire dampers many of which require scaffold erecting to provide safe accessChanging/cleaning filter media in air handling and air conditioning plantCleaning ventilation systems to comply with BS EN 15780:2011Plumbing tasks such as fitting WC seatsCleaning roofs and gutters on all buildings site wideErection of internal and external scaffolds to provide safe access to undertake maintenance worksRecording Gas/Electric/Water meter readings for bill/consumption checking purposesExperienceExperience of a similar type of environmentExperience of handy person dutiesExperience of working with equipment at heightJob Related SkillsAwareness of manual handling and health and safety regulationsWillingness to assist colleagues and work as part of a teamReasonable level of fitnessAbility to prioritise and work independently to ensure tasks are completed on timeGood communication skills dealing with a variety of stakeholders
