Job Description

GIS ConsultantBrief OverviewAre you interested in working on some of the worlds highest-profile design and engineering projects We are looking for a GIS Consultant to join our client, based in Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Newcastle. The role would be well suited to someone with around 3-5 years of experience in a consultancy environment, but we will not rule anyone out who has the required skill set.The role will be remote and flexible but ideally suited to someone in the Central Belt in Scotland or who is happy to relocate there. We would also consider candidates who wish to be based in the North East of England.This client offers a fantastic working environment, where you can learn, develop, and thrive by working as part of their high performing team.The RoleOur client requires a GIS Consultant to assist in a multi-disciplinary team. As a highly motivated professional, your daily role will include:

  • Providing technical GIS coordination, support and delivering outputs related to environmental, planning and infrastructure projects of various scales and types, working alongside existing GIS and other technical specialists.
  • Tasks could include data management, data visualisations, cartography, spatial analysis, technical consultancy/advisory, automation/scripting of spatial tasks, web development, and many other GIS linked tasks.
  • Producing project-related correspondence, reports, and GIS outputs, including technical report writing, statistics, web apps and mapping.
  • Developing relationships with existing technical specialists and skills groups to build new opportunities to deploy GIS.
  • Requirements and SkillsCore Proficiencies
  • Post-graduate GIS experience, ideally in a consultancy environment.
  • A degree in a relevant subject such as Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Software Development, and Information Technology or similar.
  • Current track record of providing GIS into projects (onshore and/or offshore), in a consulting environment.
  • Experience in developing specialist GIS skills in areas appropriate to environment and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in a range of GIS, web development and database environments.
  • Ability to flex skills and approach across a wide range of project types.
  • Expertise in Data management, to ensure efficient storage and usage of quality-assured data captured both in-house and via 3rd parties.
  • Shown success in contributing to a team-oriented and client-focussed environment.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, time management and communications skills.
  • A self-starter, highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Skills in Python scripting and web development.
  • Desirable Skills
  • Ideally a post-graduate qualification of MSc or higher (Geospatial related).
  • Experience deploying and handling online geospatial systems such as ESRI Enterprise.
  • Experience configuring ESRI-based data collection apps (Collector & Survey123).
  • Experience using and configuring enterprise databases.
  • Experience using JavaScript, HTML, SQL and other development languages, platforms, and environments.
  • Ideally progressing towards professional chartership accreditation.
  • Project management experience, including QA procedures and financial systems.
