Job Description

Executive Officer ( Litigation) Temporary Role Glasgow (WFH with view to go hybrid)37 hrs week Monday to Friday - no weekend working £12.88Would you like an opportunity to work in an exciting and challenging role within the Public sectorDo you have a legal background or are you a recent Law Graduate Brook Street are currently recruiting Executive Officers to work within the UK Central Authority for our reputable client, you will provide essential administrative support to the department, dealing with customer queries and undertaking a range of case-workingdutiesWe are responsible for considering pre-action protocol letters, judicial review challenges and private law claims. Often the legal challenges we manage are complex, novel and politically sensitive and our handling is often in the public eye. This means youwill often be working on cases which change and shape the development of the law, particularly human rights law. You can expect some of your cases will have Ministerial interest and many may be featured in the national press.You will, predominantly, work on judicial review challenges in the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) but may also be involved in cases progressing to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Initially, you will develop expertise in a particulararea - perhaps around human rights or asylum - and, as you gain experience, there will be opportunities for you to take on a wider range of areas. With the support of colleagues, you will become skilled at spotting which decisions should be defended and whichmay need to be reconsidered.You will consider pre-action protocol correspondence as it arrives and be responsible for drafting clear responses setting out the Home Office position to the challenges, seeking input from operational decision makers as needed. If challenges proceed to judicialreview, you will continue to work alongside operational decision makers, policy colleagues and other professionals to provide clear instructions to Government Legal Department lawyers (the lawyers instructed to represent the Home Office in court). Ultimately,you will be responsible for the management of the judicial review from the start to the end so will gain experience in litigation handling, preparing cases for court and managing cost conclusions.We are looking for Qualified Solicitors/Barristers/Chartered Legal Executives and Law Graduates who can make effective decisions and deliver at pace (including those graduating this year). Graduates in other disciplines who have successfully completed a GraduateDiploma in Law (or equivalent and candidates with Immigration casework experience also eligible to apply.ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for candidates who can demonstrate that they hold some essential skills.
