Digital Sport JournalistsSalary: £20k-£25k DOE + bonusReporting into Sports Editor/EditorNewsquest, the UK’s leading local media group, has announced a major new £1.5m per annum investment in local journalism with the recruitment of 50 new digital journalist roles across the UK.As part of this investment, we are looking formoretop-class digital-only sport reportersto help lead itsunrivalledlocal onlinecoveragein Glasgow, Bolton and Southampton.Every day our online newsbrands reach millions of people right across thecountry – almost 80% of the local population - and you’ll be joining a team of driven, innovativedigital specialiststaking our content to the next level.This rolepresents an exciting opportunityfor a digitally-savvysportsjournalisttocover every inch of the major clubs in our communities,unearthingthe best breaking news,exclusivefeatures, reaction and fan-centredstories from acrossthepatch.You’ll be delivering the sort of fast, agile and dynamic coverageof sportthat our readers expect and deserve in 2021.As well as being at the heart of live coverage, youwill be passionate about digital storytelling, with a desire to come up with new and innovative ways ofkeeping fans and neutrals alike up to date and entertainedstories using a vast array of different skills, tools and platforms.A big part of the job will also be immersing yourself in social media to help you tell your stories, develop relationships in your area and discover what it is that getsthecommunityaround your club talking.Audience analyticswill be a big part of the role, and you’ll be comfortable with using data to spot whatto write nextand how to maximise the potential audience for your stories, as well asidentifying trends and national talking points that would resonateon a local level.You won’t be stuck athome, butworking amid the buzz of our local newsrooms andencouraged toget out into yourpatchand tell the storiesthat fans want– be that reaction, transfer gossip,stats-basedfeatures,happenings around the club orinterviews with players and staff.This isyourchance to create a newcontent approach for sports coverage – fast-paced, entertainingstoriesusing video, audio, charts and graphics as well as goodold fashionedreporting.There is also a massive opportunity to find news audiences through Google and search.We want to tell the stories ourreaderscare about – everything from what’s happeningin our clubs,what might happen, putting stats and data into contextanddeliveringthe inside story ofthe peopleand places thatmake yourclubs tick.Ideally, you will have:
