Job Description

Consultant in Public Health – Maternal and Child Health and InequalitiesRole profileThe post holder will provide strategic leadership to key pieces of work to improve maternal and child health outcomes and reduce health inequalities.In general the post holder will:

  • take a lead role in the development and implementation of high level strategies and plans which aim to improve maternal and child health and health services
  • ensure consistency and quality of local child health surveillance systems, processes and outputs
  • ensure all aspects of maternal and child health programmes are monitored against appropriate quality standards and deliver a report on effectiveness to the NHS Board or appropriate governance committee of the NHS Board
  • work collaboratively with community planning partners to develop and implement plans that meet the legislative duties of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 and the Child Poverty (Scotland) Act 2017
  • take a lead role in advocating for children and families, including vulnerable and hard to reach groups, ensuring children’s rights are recognized, respected and promoted
  • The specific role of this post will be to:
  • Complete the development of the Lanarkshire Children and Young People’s Health Plan 2020-23 and associated performance dashboard, and support the implementation of plans to respond to identified need and achievement of key outcomes.
  • Develop plans to prepare NHS Lanarkshire and key partners for implementation of the national child death review system.
  • Attend meetings of the Child Health Commissioner to report on progress of the above.
